Please drop the medleys, Prince...

I was thrilled to see that he's on tonight until I saw that he plans another medley of '80s hits. NOT AGAIN. And acoustic, nonetheless. Yet again, he's taking away from the potential power of a performance to perform another medley. Medleys are boring, Prince!

Why not two powerful renditions of some lesser known songs to really transfix the audience? Could you imagine an all-out assault with Dance Electric or Love Bizarre or Bambi? That would blow the roof off!

Stun people, Prince! Why the depressing watering down?

I totally disagree. There are still a lot of people who haven't heard this acoustic set. He cant' always cater to the hardcore fan who's seen and heard everything. Plus, the broad way in which this show is being broadcasted justifies him doing stuff that the general audience is familiar with. wink

*NORMALLY* I agree. But in this instance I have to back off and say Prince's medleys this time out are OK.

First of all there are several full length songs in the set. Its not all medleys. You'll get full versions of great stuff like CONTROVERSY, DMSR, PURPLE RAIN, etc. Not bad!

Secondly in some of the medleys and "segue" pieces you will hear snippets of GLAMOROUS LIFE, FREE, etc. Nice treats for the hardcore- pick out the songs. Believe me 90% of the arena will not be able to!!

And thirdly the time and place for P to go into full versions of obscure tracks was the ONA theater tour or an aftershow. Think about it. 90% of an arena crowd just know the hits (and as recent escapades trying to get 20 somethings dancing on stage to sing along prove) they might not even know the words to those!! So while a run through DANCE ELECTRIC might thrill you and I to no end 90% of the arena will sit down, tune out, and the press will report that "the show was boring and people sat on their hands half the time". So honestly, its not really an option.

This tour is for the mainstream. Medleys work for them and honestly, IMO they are better than they have been in the past.

If you want to get away from them catch a Paisley Park show or some other intimate gig. I know that's not always possible for everyone. But it makes is special when it does happen. I mean I screamed like a teenage girl when he went into JOY IN REPITITION during the ONA soundcheck in KC. It was a dream come true to hear him play that.

Then he did ANNA STESIA in the rull set!! Full version with a great solo!

But that's not going to happen on this tour. That's just the nature of the beast.

I was in the middle of a crowd of 12,000 people singing almost every song -- it was too cool. The 80s medleys are really working this time 'round.
