Has Prince ever let others produce his music?

I was just thinking about that. Has he ever allowed others to produce his music? If not, do you think he ever will?

Most deffo a must - he's really starting to sound stale, wish he'd of let someone diffrent produce Musicology - I 'like' it but it could be from any prince era!!

I think he told Quincy Jones once he wanted him to produce a whole album - that'll never happen now!!

The closest he's ever come has been co-production from Kirky J and Ricky Peterson.

not to seem rash
but why should he let someone else produce him?
it'll just be an "Invincible" disaster
Prince does what he wants to do
let him do it
he;s not a follower
he's a leader
and no im not kissin the mans ass
im kissin his music's ass
If Prince lets someone else Produce him he's just gonna degrade himself from legend
to ordinary artist

and no Prince is an arogant egomaniac
he will never let someone produce him lol

Neptunes did a very nice remix for Greatest Romance

Silky J very nice work on Lovesign

The Rainbow Children reminded me that Prince is not to be fucked with musically, commercially sometimes he should CO produce with another artist for few Musicology tracks which really needs some commercial work. (mainly Dear Mr Man, On The Couch shouldve been laid back like the acoustic version, and A Million Days sounds too 1995.)
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I dont think he ever will although i wish he would. Depends what you mean by produce.

Performance wise on vocals, i think he is well in control and has a vision for which he is capable of physically reproducing.

On guitar crap sounds - its either full distortion or clean funk, and i think sloppy playing on certain songs. Nobody there to say, 'try it again' or should i say dare.

The choice of cheezy keyboard sounds doesnt help. I couldnt believe it when i heard 'A million Days' intro . That keyboard string ensemble sounds so false and straight off a korg whatsitname.

People think a producer is just there to help get more radio play and sales. I think a fresh perspective can enhance his talents and push him creatively, without compromising his style. I dont know who to suggest, i just hope its not a promoted 'yes' man. (kirky j)

Prince still amazes me with his arranging, perhaps a quality not given credit enough.

I'd be interested to hear what people think producers actually do.

Producers should really be there to enable an artist or band to fulfill their vision. They organise studio time, pick and hire session musicians and engineers, etc. - basically keep the project on track.

Prince doesn't need any of that - he can do it himself.

I think one of the problems with music at the moment is that these producers have too much control - it is really they who make the music and produce the hits and the artist is just a puppet who turns up one day to lay some vocals down.

And then the puppet gets interviewed and makes out they did it all themselves "Oh yeah, I really wanted a latin vibe to this track" like it wasn't the producer making all the decisions!

Why should a track end up sounding more like the work of a hired producer rather than the artist themselves? With Prince you get what you expect - a Prince record.

I read somewhere he said that producers tend to only ever build a song around a loop. On the recent interview on the Today Show Prince himself said: "There seems to be a glut of processed, pre-packaged, producer driven music out there right now".

That would take away from the appeal of Prince. Don't get me wrong Prince is a phenomenal performer. But the his strongest ability IMO, is songwriting, playing and producing. He doesn't need a producer, he is a producer. Though Clare Fischer and Prince always made beautiful music.

Anxiety

I've never understood why albums have producers but they don't have "directors", like with stage or film.
