This is a hard one. I'm torn I really love the intricate rapping and male macho goober vibe of Jughead, but it sure is catchy.

"Jughead" should've been on "Sign 'O' The Times". In place of "Housequake"

Although I like WYWM it is too much of a bland pop song IMO, I have to go for Jughead. This must be the quintessential Prince recording, it is the song that got me into Prince. And did you ever notice the delicate rapping by that Tony M. guy? He's up there with the greatest, I mean his flow certainly beats guys like Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Chuck D. etc. I wonder why we've never heard about him anymore since he left Prince's camp.

I wish Prince would do more songs like Jughead, I mean stuff like this sells nowadays. Why'd he come up with that crappy Musicology album anyway? Noone will buy that kind of music...

Jughead is in fact some unreleased Nick Drake lyrics sung over the reworking of an old Louis Armstrong outtake instrumental jam, and because I don't like Prince covering other artists I wasn't originally attracted to this track.

However, because Prince tries too hard to play all the instruments himself on WYWM, it REALLY DOES SHOW. I'm listening to it now with headphones, and it's making me cringe just imagining him sat on a stool with a foot-pedal attached to a cymbal that's on his head, simultaneously blowing a harmonica that's going through some really cheesy synth effect and all the while trying to make his guitar sound like a bass at the same time. I've heard better one-man-bands at country fairs, and this image just does not suit the 'sexy' image he was trying to acheive with Dirty Mind. That said I give WYWM a D-, and Jug Head A+ because I do now have an appreciation for historical referencing in songs, provided it's done with class.

to be honest, if you have to play one song to get someone into prince, play em jughead.

you know i was wondered yesterday, the whole d&p album is accredited to the NPG, as i think, is the symbol album, so if thats about 9 million album sales to date between em, i imagine tony m is living fairly nicely off of it dont you? lucky git! plus the backing vox for his raps must be ok too! lucky lucky bastards!
