Prince & Revolution 101 Just curious if there is Prince site where I can read about Prince's history with the Revolution (I already checked the FAQ here)? Things like when and how did they get together? Which early albums are just "Prince", and when did he start recording with the Revolution? For how many albums were they together? How did they break up and why? Were Wendy and Lisa always part of the Revolution? It looks like they are still together (W & L), but what about the rest of the band?

It was Prince's record contract to begin with His first albums were purely him The members of the Revolution were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time when he blew up in the 80's

I posted under a Wendy and Lisa thread yesterday, reagrding the whole Revolution thing.Apparently it was against Prince's manager wishes to start sharing billing with the band.Simply because there were no contracts between the individuals in the band and the Management team of C,R, and F. The bands contracts were directly with Prince as the employer. Thus giving him power to hire and fire whomever he wanted. I've been told that Lisa coleman originally coined the band "The revolution as early as 1980-81".And that was a part of the major lawsuits that followed when Prince sued Steve Fargnoli for mis-management etc...Steve Fargnoli apparently cohersed Prince to fire Wendy and Lisa due to mechanical royalties for production that they stood to earn based upon their work on a huge number of unreleased tracks they finished for Prince.Again Steve Fargnoli and friends got a huge chunk of what was earned by Prince, if he's having to divide money with Wendy, Lisa, the brother the sister and whoever else that's less money for him. Therefore thats why Prince dropped the band from all the marquees and billing after the Parade tour.He quickly went back to sharing billing with a band "the NPG" after C,R,andF were dismissed for D & P.

For me the Revolution isn't really "The Revolution" until Wendy joined the band.....
Been re-kicking it to First Avenue 8/3/83 lately, birth of the Revolution and one of P's best shows ever. stormbringer No Sonny T?
No Michael B? Ain't NPG! Spider Wisdom: http://bigesayswhat.blogspot.com/ the Manipulations: http://www.myspace.com/themanipulations

Isn't "and the Revolution" visible in the cover art for 1999? Every now and then

Early days: http://www.startribune.co...index.html Purple Rain & the revolution: http://www.startribune.co...index.html Thanks so much for these links ... great reading (btw, user "guest" & pw "guest" will get you in w/o registering). I saw Wendy on the Tavis Smiley show w/Prince but did not know the story behind the performance. Getting back to the Revolution, Prince basically assembled this group and named them the Revolution? They were not together before before Prince? I did not know this.

Speaking of album covers. Has anyone really truly looked at the cover to Sign of The Times and realized that there could be a hidden meaning in the cover? This is just me thinking this but: There year is 1987....on the cover is Prince, albeit a half shot of him....an organ(keyboards), a guitar, and a drum set. All the instruments are alone...meaning....Wendy is gone....Lisa is gone...Bobby Z is gone and Brownmark are gone. Maybe it's just me. LOL I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.
