Any lyrical mysteries found on Musicology?

In the past we've debated the meaning of The Morning Papers, Starfish and Coffee, Anna Stesia, and even "the real reason Adam never left Eve"... oh, and don't forget Otan.

But I can't think of any intriguing lyrical mysteries on Musicology. sad

Is there even any backtracking or whispering for us to discover years from now (a la Lovesexy)?

Has anyone noticed anything like this?

If so, Reveal!

(Maybe this is the first Prince album without a mystery...which would make me cry ... the lyrics seem pretty straightforward and direct ...)

What's the deal with the silence at the end of the album. It's fucking irritating.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Okay, please excuse my nasty nature but. . . On the Marrying Kind

Towards the end, Prince says, "I'm gonna put her on the same diet Missy went one, you know she eat to much tonight."

Now me being my nasty self I thought:

1. Was Missy on the Atkins diet? ALL PROTEIN

2. You know she eat to much tonight. . . ok I'll let you guys decipher what I'm getting at.

So, have I've been a Prince fan too long and am reading too, too much into this. I know he's changed the "dirty" words to his songs, but the sexual innuendos seem to resurface.

Let me know.

That's a really good supposition. I've been trying to figure out what that line means exactly and couldn't, but that makes sense to me.

Aside from that, there's the foreign language (I think it's Italian) that's spoken at the end of "What do you want me to do". Does anybody know the translation?

Ah... I hadn't thought of that. Nice one.
See... Prince is still a nasty guy, he just hides it more.

The song is a post 9/11 reference to the xenophobic treatment by some people of others based on skin colour.

Thus, the 'Cinammon Girl', whose skin colour is "of mixed heritage" is prejudicially and irrationally accused of being implicated in terrorism.

OH YEAH, SHIT...somebody tell me that one.

The lyrics appear to be:

What's it, what's it
What's it gonna take 2 get your booty soakin' wet?
U and me closer baby, that's a bet

The transcription to the song will probably be available here in about 7 days together with the rest of the album:

The big mystery is what that girl says in Italian. Now, I've heard a translation, but that still doesn't explain what point Prince is trying to make, and why put it there in Italian?

Her skin colour is that of cinnamon..."cinnamon girl of mixed heritage" so shes not white or black but a brown complexion, hence she may have been looked down upon as a foreigner and potential terrorist after 9/11 sad

Maybe I missed it, but I still haven't seen a translation of the spoken part at the end of "What Do U Want Me 2 Do?" Is it Italian? What does it say and who is it?

I think its got to be more cryptic than that.

Do you think he's referring to the year 1977? I mean the song is reflective, so maybe he's thinking about a time before he was a celebrity???

I've read that she says:

"don't worry about me, I'm fine also without him, I arrived in this world alone, I arrived this way.
But I don't wanna leave him. Why, why don't men love us so, as we deserve?"

Ah.....now, that makes perfect sense to me.
The woman is basically asking: "why am I not appreciated"?
She feels like she's being taken for granted. That's exactly what the song is about. Prince is telling the other guy that if he lets his woman go, he (Prince) will be right there to swoop her up. I love the playful lines he uses in that song. So witty and full of humor. thumbs up!
