okay. so this lady i work with is supposedly a Prince fan, and i was singing Glam Slam, and she asked me "what are you singing?" and i said "Glam Slam, it's my favorite Prince song" and she was like "REALLY??? i'm a huuuuuge Prince fan!! so what album is that song off of?" and me non-chalantly "Lovesexy" ....."??what's a lovesexy?" .... so then since she was such a huuuuuge Prince fan, i asked her "what Prince albums do you have?" "Oh, um. MusiCOGY(not Musicology...) Raspberry Beret, and his new one" okay....i obviously work with some dumb bitches, cuz that was pretty much the end of the conversation before i and bodyslam a bitch. for real. people like that make me sick...do ya'll know anybody like that???

I've run across so many people like that. I get folks saying their huge fans, and when I start trying to get their thoughts on NPGMC or something of that nature, they just look at you like a deer in headlights.

Even better, however, is when someone decided to "school" me. I worked with this one guy, who was always saying "you don't know nothing 'bout that" to everyone when he was listening to certain old-school artists. One day he had on something from "Controversy" ("Private Joy" I believe) and said it to me. I wish I had a picture of his face when I started singing along. Next day, I brought some discs of obscure Prince material, and watched his jaw scrap the floor! I had tons of stuff he'd never even heard of! He conceded that I knew my stuff. Every now and then, he would still try to get me with a P-funk track or something (and, of course, I knew it), but he never did try to "teach" me about Prince ever again

I've just recently became a hardcore fan, and i've downloaded tons of his songs, i'm not the biggest fan and don't know all his songs, but i still know my shit dammit. and that bitch was an insult to "fans" everywhere.

know what pisses me off? people who think they are the only one's who are Prince fans because they've liked him for years, and if some not as knowledgeable coworker only became a Prince fan yesterday because of his sudden regain in popularity, then they somehow aren't entitled to be fans.

I'm sure Prince isn't against gaining new fans. are you threatened your territory is being peed on or what? Hell, I'm a big New York Jets fan but I couldn't tell you who they drafted this weekend, because I don't have to be obsessed with them to be a fan. same with Prince. obsession does not equal greater fan. only sicker fan.

I overhead a conversation about music between 2 teen boys (maybe about 15 or 16?) and I nearly fell off my chair when I heard this:
