Not much has been discussed about the video for musicology. What are everyone's thoughts / favourite segments?

I thought the intro was really cool.. the middle sections reminded me of mj's vid black or white with macualey in his living room....

Prince could have done some more funky dancing to show the world he hasnt lost his skills!

Overall i thought the vid was really FUNKY!!

I think it was really cool, 1 of the best video's i've seen from prince.

I love the little boy dancing its soo sweet

I love it! my favorite secuence are all, because the story is good and lifenear, the dreams of a boy, he's vocation... also the ambiente is good and sends positive vibrations, all the dancing folks. The song I liked from the begin and every day more, when comes from my radiowalky. I'm happy, my African friends, whom didn't knew him, know the will!
Special i love the dancing scenes with that little boy, full dressed and all, his so cute! I'ls love it to see more sequences, I come close to tears. The NPG is amzing! And Prince, well... yes... Prince is Prince!

When the boy does that split & then the dad comes in & be like "Move get back!"-"Dunchu touch my stereo-These are MY records!"(we all know that wuz P's voice-sounded funny 2)

& @ the end when Prince be like "Donchu hear this ol'school joint?! Donchu EVA touch MY stereo!"-2df he call hisself tryna be all hardcore. The expressions on his face said it all.

I LOVE the video. Easily one of the best videos he's ever done. The little kid stole the show for me. Great song, great video.

It's cool, like the old school feel... how the b-boys (does anybody say that anymore?? LOL!) couldn't get in the club but the fly ones could (I'm REALLY showing my age right now! )... the kid still bugs me a bit, dunno why. Hope he doesn't read message boards I gotta get more kid-friendly one of these days

Such a great video. Really warm, fits the music style completely. And the steppers (and riot dudes) are a genius touch.

i love the video! i love that 'cab calloway three-piece suit' look; alway have. it's also great to hear P give love to some really great music makers in the lyrics. i grew up on sly and the family stone (my dad's fav band of ALL TIME); it feels good to know that the man and i enjoy the same kind of music.

That video has some nice touches to it. I love the part mentioned already where the homeboys are trying to get past the bouncer, and then the dudes in the suits walk up, with the front guy nonchalantly holding some cash out for the bouncer on their way by.

Also, when Prince is rattling off names, as he mentions Chuck D they cut to the boy doing the standup-straight, arms-folded Chuck D pose.

I think Prince needs to once and for all give up the imagery of women clamoring onstage just to touch him as he sings, and being held back by bodyguards...it's a tad narcissistic.

ITs one of his best.

The director did one hell of a good job.

The Story is about Prince's life when he was young! (the kid dancing onstage at a James Brown concert when he after someone put him up there. the story's similar in many ways.. )

The lay out, the seventies feel, the theater background, the clothings! they're all great.

The INTRO, is superb! Here we can hear one of the great pieces of Clare Fisher again!
I wish i had the video version in perfect audio quality!
i definately would replace it with the album version! It's far more funky and the live chant fits in perfect (in my humble opinion).

I think this is the best Princevideo in ages, and much better then the music in fact.
It compliments the song in more ways than one.

There's just one little thing that bothers me, that's when those guy's are not alowed into the club... i don't get it, that's all. That sequence lasts a little bit too long, just like when the kid does a split, andthe father enteres the bedroom to take 'his records'. The repeating of the same image here is also a split second too long. But these kind of remarks are details of course, and of no importance.

The whole video is just smashing, and deserves the attention it gets on music chanels.
I nearly see it every day on some musicchanel (here in Belgium).

I wonder who made the video?

I don't understand why prince was wearing that purple dinosaur suit? It's not his usual style.

That kid kinda bugs me too. I mean sure he's talented and all, but he looks like one of those child actors who are too melodramatic, cuz their parents are coaching them offstage and making grand gestures with their arms "more! more! MORE!"



Oh and thehair. Both P and the kidhave AWFUL hair! That halfro thing is just not happening. I like P's hair now, on tour, seems a bit more natural and less coiffed.

Also where is Rhonda? She's barely in the damn thing. I know he's giving all the attention to Candy, but she cant hold a candle to Ms. Smith :p

Nice to see some fans in it too. I think that's all i can remember right now.

I love it, I watch it whenever I put my C.D. in my computer plus I see it on vh1 and soul music station, it's in all the music channel commercials here.
They are hyping the shit out of it.

It works.. as an OLD SCHOOL JOINT on the album.

It might have worked as a Video release for Music Video Stations back in the 80's
But in today's high-speed high-production competitive dance market.. the narcissistic clown show would merely draw a few brief chuckles. I had my VCR on a state of alert for weeks so I could add it to my VHS collection, but I guess I'll have to settle for VCD since they still aren't playing it yet out here.
