how i became a Prince fan in 1982 i was a fan of the song Little Red Corvette and bought the single but at the time i wasnt into Prince ( John Cougar,Bliondie were my thing) anyway 1984 came along i still wasn't into Prince yet i liked what i heard on the radio but i didnt rush out to buy it because everybody was into Prince by that time and i wanted to be different and go against everybody else and like my own thing..
Well i remember when the Purple Rain movie was released on video and it was a big deal my dad wanted to see what the fuss was about and im like your not gonna like it dad..but he said get it anyway and so i did... So my dad was out and me and a buddy were hanging out and he's like hey put in that Puple Rain movie you got your dad and i was like nawww i dont want to see that...so eventually i caved in and we started watching it and about 20 minutes into the movie i was like "this Prince is fucking weird..take this off and lets go out and hang somewhere" so i shut the tape and went out.. When i came back home my dad said "hey put it in the Prince movie we'll watch it" and i was like "dad no! your gonna hate it! i tried to watch it earlier and i shut it off!" and he's like i wanna aee it! put it on! and i was like alright i warned you!... So i started watching it with him and man did i get into it this time! i dont know what it was but i was now digging Prince! (i guess i finally gave him a chance) and i LOVED the movie and even watched it again after everybody went to bed The very next day the FIRST thing i did was i ran to the Sears store bought the Purple Rain album and was totally into it and then i went back to the store and bought For You,Prince,Dirty Mind,Controversy,& 1999 and the rest is history i have been listening to Prince religiously ever since! I am sorry that i missed out on the Purple Rain experience of watching it in a theatre but i am so glad my dad wanted to watch the movie after i told him it sucked because i would have missed out on a lot and who knows my life would have been totally different without the influence Prince's music had on me growing up Check it out ...Shiny Toy Guns R gonna blowup VERY soon and bring melody back to music..you heard it here 1st! http://www.myspacecomment...theone.mp3

I live in southern california, about 180 from LA, in the early eighties, the radio stations in our desert comunities only played safe pop music, thats all i knew, i was just a kid, there was no entertainment tonight, or Entertaiment weekly, and MTV was a new thing.
As far as i knew, the only thing out there was Blondie, Kenny Roggers, Barry Manillow, etc. One day as i was playing with the radio we were able to catch KROQ From LA, and out from the radio came the coolest thing i had ever heard, didnt know who it was or what but i was in shock this was so good, and every day after for the past week, i would try and get this station to hear this incredible new song! The song was controversy and i had to have it. My Uncle had that record, and also one by The Time, man, this was the greatest music i had ever heard! and mind you, in those days you didnt have to hear a prince song over and over to see if you liked it!, His music got you by the throwt from the very first notes and wouldnt let you go! "Get it up" how funky a song is that, one listen to just a couple on notes and BAMMM "COOL" man the stuff was too good, and it didnt stop, then came another song "Nasty Girl" from a group called Vanity six, i was so hooked. One day while listening to the radio, the coolest song i had ever heard came on the radio, i didnt know who it was, but the only dude whos music grabed me like that was prince, and i wasnt sure, but i knew this had to be Prince, the song gave me goose bumps,. the song i later found out was indeed prince "When Doves Cry" and every year there after we were treated to the coolest new music ever, i thought it was never gonna stop, i bought everything that had anything to do with this dude, I even have that Shena easton CD with "101", i love that song and Dale Bozzios pasily park CD with "so strong" even thoe i do not like anything he does now, i still consider myself a fan, and every year, i buy his new cd to see if maybe there is still hope, thats why i come here still, because i havent given up on him. as a music lover there is a lot of new music i love and hold dearly, but i still come here now and again and check things out, some may call me a hater because i dont like his new direction, i call it lack of direction, or just plain lazy and half ass, but hes done so much good stuff in his life, its ok to make horridly umbarassing stuff like Rainbow Childern or Emancipation etc.
