What happened to Clare Fischer? On Prince's recent cd's Clare Fischer's orchestral arrangements are credited as "string samples". And sometimes these are courtesy of the vault. What does that mean? Did Prince stop working with him? Did he die or something?

Clare Fischer is alive and well - and his recent work was the subject of a post on this site.
It seems, rather than commission Clare to add strings to some tracks, Prince has sampled his past string arrangements and used the sample to add his distinctive sound to the tracks were the credits appear. This was done in a similar way, I believe, during the Nude tour when a sample was used by Matt Fink to play 'strings' via his keyboard to accompany the 'Electric Man' segment which followed 'The Question Of U'. , ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. Well it's good to know he is still kickin'. But what's up with the change in the way he is credited? Is this just Prince being weird or do they no longer work together and Prince is now using old recordings to go with his new music?

I posted at the same time as you. Thanks for the info. I do hope Prince will continue to employ Clare to record some new music. I love the orchestral arrangements he comes up with. I think they are very unique and definitely suit Prince's music. Would any of you recommend and of Clare Fischer's cd's? And if so which ones

I don't own any of his albums so I couldn't comment. The recent thread providing an update is here: http://www.prince.org/msg...sg_1507137 You might want to try orgnoting the author - pimpdoutt - for suggestions? Just a thought. . What genre/style of music would you use to describe Clare Fischer' work with prince. I love the arrangements he created for the parade album but they sound like nothing i've heard before. Very cinema-esque! You do as I say

I think prince should hook up with a new orchestrator for some new songs for a new mood.... Clare is cool, but it would be fun to here a new combo....
I have a cool interview with Clare Fischer somewhere... from around 1999 or 2000. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

The best way I've found to to search is against 'Fischer'. There's a few pages, but the interesting stuff that you contribute usually appears on the search pages. . is that his work at the beginning of the Musicology video? The strings in the background while "the kid" is buying the record?

I remember Prince saying that he'd never actually seen Fischer, or even any pictures of him. It became this supersticious thing with him, where he wouldn't allow himself to ever see Clare's picture. Maybe he finally saw it? =)
Peace. | |
