Diamonds and Pearls [ NYPost.com excerpt]

http://www.nypost.com/ent.../23123.htm

April 25, 2004 -- Diamonds and pearls: Prince played "Sweet Thing,"
the Rufus/Chaka Khan hit, on Monday at an intimate Webster Hall party
for the release of his new record, "Musicology." And his purple
highness strummed the opening riffs of "Proud Mary," the first song
he ever learned, in a solo set.

He's said in interviews that the first song he learned to play was the "Batman" theme . . .

Maybe "Proud Mary" was the first REAL song he learned, with lyrics and mutiple instruments . . .

hmmm

I think he learned the Batman theme first, on piano.

From the quotes I've read, Prince said Proud Mary was the first song he learned on guitar.

This is new info, though - I've never heard that before this show. Maybe he made it up. The Batman theme info sounds like something that could have been made up in 1989. I think they're both probably true, though - just being cynical...

I was in the house in NYC when he played a snippet of "Proud Mary." Prince said, "You wanna hear the first song I ever learned.... on the guitar." So, he was making it clear to the crowd that it was his first on the guitar and not necessarily the first he ever learned.

Hope ya'll can see this on TV this week.
