It's bullshit, but at the same time we all gotta remember that there is an entire generation out there who have never heard Prince's music

Kids only associate Prince as a guy who changed his name to prince and that's about it

Go back 5 years - Greatest Romance
Go back 7 years - Betcha BGW & Holy River
Go back 8 years - Dinner With Doloras
Go back 10 years - TMBGITW

In the last 10 years Prince has attempted single releases, they are all ballads that kids never saw Prince as an exciting and energetic artist (as the 10 years previous to that, 1999, Let's go Crazy, Kiss, etc)

Have a think about this:

Lets just say that we generalise everyone and say that people can recall songs from when they were 5 years old at the earliest (which is a fair enough assumption)

Now think of Prince's last BIG mainstream success

Diamonds and Pearls - 1991

So let's say u were 5 years old in 1991

It would make u 18 in 2004

So the reality would be that most under 18's have had no (or very little) exposure to Prince, and if they have, they probably consider him a whack balladeer. At most they respect him, but not dig him sad

Really, guys, #29 ain't so bad. Remember that this thing has had virtually no airplay or publicity, bar a few plays on Rage, and comes in a yucky brown cover that you'd never really notice unless you were specifically looking for it.
