I went to the Cleveland,Ohio show at Gund Arena and there was only 1,000 seats open if that. It was just the top few rows in a few areas.

That to me that is a sell out & it was to the Newspaper Music Reporter from Akron & Cleveland. ( actually the Akron Reporter wrote another article about the Prince show at Gund Arena this week!! I'll scan it for everyone to read, it was all about how amazing the crowd was) cool

What I dont understand is this. Why do people say 20,000 seats is how many seats that could be sold like it is a NBA Basketball Game? When they have the whole floor too? Thats over the seats in the stands.

Gund Arena holds about 20,500 seats for a Cavs Game. But the Music Events have all the floor seats which seems like another couple thousand?

There were also blocks of seats they couldn't sell because video cameras were set up. What I heard was that the only seats left at the gund were obstructed view seats, so it was considered a sellout.

btw: giving CDs out at the concert only works if you can sell tickets. It wasn't too long ago that Prince couldn't sell this many tickets.

If not for the shows, the sales figures would be a hell of a lot lower.

Well isn't that the major reason why artists go on tour? To sell the new record? Prince just added some new steps to this time-worn dance. I think you could say of any artist "sales figures would be lower without the shows"!!

..some folks can't be stisfied if Prince is doin' well or if he isn't...all I know is, I was at the Columbia show, and I didn't see any empty seats....that being said...letitgo, people.... damn aint it enough that the man is in the "know" again...shit..what will it take to satisfy a Prince fan??

What will it take to satisfy a Prince fan? Good luck! We are some of the most spoiled-ass bitches on the planet. Nothing this man does is right. We'll always find a reason to complain no matter how much music he gives us, no matter how well he does, we will NEVER be satistified and that's truly sad. I don't know of any other artist in the history of the music industry that has given his/her fans this much musicial output [good or bad], yet we continue to complain. I feel sorry for Prince.

I think P " giving the album away" was a good move. It really made the record company hustle as far as promotion for the album. One thing I haven't seen anyone point out is the fact that Prince has not had a video in regular rotation on MTV in years. Not since the Love Symbol album. MTV refused to play The Most Beutiful Girl vid and that was a hit song, TGRES got a little play on B.E.T and that was it. The labels must realize that they really have to push this one with P giving the album away, in order to have a hit. P is covered either way it goes seeing that the price of the album is included in ticket sales. He only signed a distribution and promo deal in the first place, so he's really making them work for the sales this time. That's the way it should be, you create the project, so the company should work for you. Smart move in my opinion. wink

He's not "giving away" the album. It's sold along with the ticket, and built in2 the ticket price. It's not about HOW an album is sold, as LONG as it's sold. He found a way 2 work the system and it's paying off. True, the sales would be alot lower without the show, but who cares?? Let's enjoy it while we have the chance!!

cleveland and columbus officially sold out.

according to billboard, oaklahoma city sold out as well

according to this

http://www.prince.org/msg...sg_1545243

ft lauderdale and tampa sold out these past two nights

Add the 4 you listed, and that's 9 out of 20 shows thus far sold out. According to the link above, 5 of the next 12 are also sold out already. Who knows if more got missed - we'll have to wait for billboard to update this page to find out for the shows that made the top 10 grosses for the week

http://www.billboard.com/...xscore.jsp

And adding in the shows may seem easy to you, but that doesn't mean it happens that way. There was an article posted her that clearly explained how and why the CDs would be added as well as why only the one show would be added this week.

both Atlanta shows have sold out and if he adds another show in the ATL, that will sell out too.

Yeah, but usually they'll play a bunch of songs from the album to promote it. This is a tour of hits. Besides, they concert goers have no choice but to get the album anyway.

Well, is that your rebutal? You're pretty fucking sad if all you can comment on is the typo in my signature. And guess what? I'm going to keep it that way just to let you know you caught me with a typo. ROTF A+ for effort!

rebuttal: The act of rebutting; a statement made in rebutting.

rebut: to refute, especially by offering opposing evidence or arguments.

I was simply commenting on your signature, that it's a shame to diss when your own shit is WHACK. Please note the difference between a "comment" & a "rebuttal"... and get yourself a dictionary

I've probably made 3 or 4 typos in my posting history on this forum. And you found two of them. Congratulations! And when I said is that your rebuttal, I stated it with a question mark. So, since you're the most anal-retentive person on this forum, you should've noticed that. Now, do you care to rebut me, or do you want to keep jerkin' yourself off regarding my typos, since you've got obviously nothing better to do?

Musicology hasn't sold between 165-180,000 copies. Prince has given copies away of the album at his concerts this year. And if you add up all the attendances of his concerts so far this week, you'll see that it adds up to roughly 100,000 tickets sold. These giveaways shouldn't count as sales. The real amount of sales this week for Musicology, if Billboard's estimates are right, is around 65-80,000 copies sold.

I agree. It's like Prince is saying, if you want to see me in concert, you HAVE to buy my album and make me look good on the charts!

Prince should try and 'sell' even more records this way - have a club, where the entry fee includes the cost of the album and free drinks. Where will it end? Certainly other acts will follow and the price of concert tickets is going to shoot up even further.

The thing is, I thought Prince giving everybody who attended a concert a copy of the album was an act of generosity and good promotion - like publicly giving to charity, say. Now it is coming across as a business driven ploy to boost sales figures.

Or it could be that for once an artist chose to give his fans a free album at a concert they have been dying to go to...

Damn... people need to start looking at shit in the positive light... I was happy to get my free disc at a concert I was happy to see. I've paid more for other artists who didn't give me anything but a great show. I took home two copies of an excellent disc and was thankful for that.

You guys are so negative sometimes... disbelief
