Ok, this sounds great and I agree...The Cd is being included in the cost of the ticket anyways....so this means the following shows should be included into the SOUNDSCAN count:

21.04.2004: Columbia/SC, The Colonial Center, $75,
22.04.2004: Knoxville/TN, Thompson-Boling Arena, $65
23.04.2004: Raleigh/NC, RBC (Royal Bank Of Canada) Center, $75
25.04.2004: Ft. Lauderdale - Sunrise/FL, Office Depot Center, $76.50

Plus the Cd retail sales...BESTBUY has an awesome deal for $9.99 and Trust...ppl have taken advantage of that, whether they have a copy from the show or not!

Its always great to have pictures, crisp quality of the musicology video and words to your favorite jams on the new disc!

So I predict PRINCE will enter the TOP 200 Charts@ #2!!!

Prince is expected to sale about 190,000 copies, but I think he's selling about 250,000 right now so if those four dates are added -- we're talking about another 50,000 or more copies.

Usher already had his big week and that should be it. Mario Winans only has that one song to rely on and he's not promoted that well.

MUSICOLOGY will be #1 not because I appreciate the purple guy's music and I don't know any better, but because this is his time plus the stars are all lined up for him. Also, this is just the beginning. I've seen the future and the whole year will be Prince. Look for Grammy nominations next year and look out for him showing up as entertainer of the year in many outlets. Prince can't be denied.

read the first post in this thread

http://www.prince.org/msg/7/91020

only the first concert total will be included, the rest has to wait until next week. Seems odd to me that they'd do it that way.

Like alandail said, the rest of the concert albums won't be counted til next week. So Prince ain't debuting at #1 this week, that's for sure. Probably at #3.

Yeah, but people aren't buying concert tickets as a way to get the album - they're buying tickets to go to a concert. It's like, you can't just give your album to passers-by and then claim you've sold thousands of albums. The charts are a reflection of the popularity of an album - ie, where people have actively gone out and bought the album. Incorporating it into the ticket price and giving it to everyone doesn't reflect whether all those people would have actually bought the album - the choice is taken away. What about people going to several concerts and getting several copies? Is that something that normally would happen?

I don't believe these freebies will be included in any soundscan count, and if they are they shouldn't be, much as I'd like to see Prince do well in the charts.

Well I think Billboard said they would and they are not freebies I belive the cost has been worked into the ticket price. Therefore I don't think that they are just giving to passerbys but people who on some level are interested in his music. I think they should because a sale is a sale. To me I think it it a shrewd business move.

Whether or not the giveaway CDs are counted, Prince will still be #1. If not, it will be another USA conspiracy like JFK.

Besides, Prince is #1 at the bank regardless what happens.

Something I forgot to say earlier...

When the concert tickets are advertised, it says new CD will be giving out. It's not a surprise so Soundscan have to count them.

Personally, I've shit all over the little man's sense of business for the last 7 years. But for the first time Prince has actually done something that makes perfect sense. He's including the cost of the cd into the ticket price (those cds weren't bar-coded for no reason) so basically anyone who goes to the show is paying for the cd. He probably gets a bigger piece of the profit from those sales. With Sony distributing the cd from the retail angle there's going to be better promotion and visibility. With Musicology being such a good album, (not great but good because it's accessible) the music should be able to sell itself without winding up in a used cd store anytime soon.

Y'all ain't lying. Going to Best Buy for the last couple of days and seeing there be hardly any copies of a Prince CD left in stock is as surreal as surreal gets today. It's a beautiful thing, and we haven't even gotten to May yet..
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Considering you said it would be a hit if it were any good, I can see why you need to say "no matter what".

SOLD OUT HERE AT BEST BUY BY THE BAY (MARIN CITY) But i don't know if that's because shipments were small considering his track record or the 9.99 price tag got peeps to buy it. I went to Tower & they have a nice display stand full of musicology as well as their end caps fully stocked so who knows what the accurate gage is. I hope to see him #1 on the charts, we'll know soon.
