underappreciated: Days of Wild (studio version)

Everyone dogs this studio track in favor of the live one(s), and the vibe is completely different, but the live one is... all in all... a conservative typical prince band arrangement of the studio one which has this completely original sound to its mix, beat, synth lines, and it is almost cool-ly indifferent yet hard at the same time....

Hey, how's it going.

I'm Marty.

Say, I have a boot on tape from a while ago and it has a two to three minute version of D.O.W. and i'm trying to find more info on it. It sounds like a rehersal of some sort. The main thing that sticks out for me is it starts with P kinda screaming and then says "nigga" and the jam starts. And it's the funkiest version i've ever heard. It then continues with him doing the 'Hair' part. Could be in studio, I don't hear any audience but because of the tape I don't really know the original's quality.

If anyone could hip me out that'd be super-funka-licious-avacious-ly-loo.

yes,

Hey y'all. This is my first response in an .org thread. Wish me luck.

I've always LOVED "Days of Wild" (studio version)...the live versions are great but were never better than the studio cut IMO. I was a little annoyed as well with the live version on Crystal Ball as I've heard better sounding performances (same with "The Ride")...and was longing for an official copy of the studio track.

The best thing to do though is to take "Interactive" off of the Interactive CD-ROM (edit out the silence at the end) followed by a bootleg of the studio version of "Days of Wild," then take The Gold Ex. and Crystal Ball and lay down:

NPG Operator
TMBGITW
NPG Operator
Now
Acknowledge Me
Ripopgodazippa
NPG Operator
319
NPG Operator
Shy
Billy Jack Bitch
I Hate U
NPG Operator
Gold

You get the original line up for The Gold Experience complete with logical segues and interactive theme. If you haven't heard it already it is a wonderfully cohesive album and the transitions are flawless. Some of the songs I was sort of luke-warm about ("Ripop" and "TMBGITW") sound great in this configuration ("Acknowledge Me" right after "Now" is just a whole bucket o' party!)

Sure, you're now missing "P Control," EndorphinMachine," "Shhh," "Dolphin" (and "Hide the Bone" for that matter)...but you're also missing "We March"...and that's not a bad thing. wink

Wasn't Interactive supposed to be back to back with Endorphinemachine but Interactive was taken off because Prince thought it didn't work well that way?

I believe you're referring to the original Come album.

Poem
Interactive (full)
Endorphinmachine (different mix)
Space
Phermone
Loose!
Papa
Race
Dark
Solo
Strays of the World

Personally I don't mind "Endorphinmachine" after "Interactive"...it's "Race" in general that kills the album...and the happy ending to "Papa." "Poem" and "Strays" are over the top but I strangely enjoy them (If I ever did a drag number it would be to "Strays of the World"...I should start a thread...)
