Autobiographical Nature of P's Music As people have mentioned, Prince doesn't like to talk about his private life, but he always puts it in the music.
Examples: Nothing Compares to You/Adore--to Susannah Forever in my Life--Susannah proposal Wally--Susannah breakup I Hate U--Carmen relationship Symbol Album--incestuous crush on Mayte (don't look now... there's a river of blood?) 319--Mayte is now legal I Like it There--P is wearing out Mayte in bed Dinner with Delores--P's still gettin' some on the side though when he visits South Beach We March--P wants to go to Million Man March, but he doesn't own a bus to drive to DC and the Nation of Islam isn't down with him yet Emancipation Disc 2--Mayte is pregnant, P thinks its love Don't Play Me--P turning down the groupies now Comeback--song to lost child Wasted Kisses--can't figure this one out... subconscious anger at lost child/Matye? Silly Game--Matye breakup begins Baby Knows--Ananda Lewis and P hook up in NYC I Love You But...--It's over with Mayte Strange But True--Prince overtakes in the battle between the dual personalitites U Make My Sunshine--Mani relationship begins High--P feeling good again Wedding Feast--This is the announcement She Loves Me 4 Me--Dedicated to Mani Anyways, are there songs that are clearly fiction, or others that are also autobiographical? It seems hard to tell sometimes with Prince. No Candy 4 Me

Brian I agree that listening to his music is like opening a book about his life. Other than the obvious religious messages, how would you describe where his head is now...with Rainbown Children?

Seems to me that he is more at peace with himself than he has been in quite a long time.
For instance, Wedding Feast is an example of his sense of humor, which he often shows in private but usually leaves off his own albums. SLM4M is about as heartfelt as he's been since the Susannah era IMHO. Also, Last December shows some introspection. When he says "Did you give your all," I think he's pointing the finger inward and questioning his own life. Perhaps he sees things in his life to which he didn't give his all and he's making a change. Thinking back to Letitgo, he made a similar statement about "until now all...," except that I think it's more heartfelt now. I think you see this in his new openness with fans and new desire to give what fans what they want through his retail business. Overall, if you take away the religious references, TRC shows him more laid back and at peace with himself than ever before. Even though I don't agree with his new religious views, they do seem to have helped him become more introspective about his own life, and perhaps made him a better person in many ways.
