first album by the time is prince at his funkiest

we often debate what is prince's funkiest album ,in my opinion prince gave us great funk on first album by the time.
raw unploished funk, extended guitar solos, funky keyboard.
i think that on his official albums prince was holding back but on the time album he was realy streaching.

Totally agree with you ...
but don't forget the second album by The Time (what time is it?) and The Black Album ...
they're funky as hell too.

And if the Camille album was released, it would be added to those three albums.

Your'e so right, player. The material on the first Time album was basically Prince's third album, but he wanted to crossover so he went with Dirty Mind. The songs for The Time were "too black". Plus Warner's was putting pressure on him to follow up "I Wanna Be Your Lover", so he came up with The Time to satisfy Warners. The song "Oh Baby" was an outake from Prince's 2nd album. But the musicianship on the Time's first album is flawless. I totally agree. He carried that concept over onto "1999", the style of playing, the long lenghts of songs.

it's intersting how somgs on time are very long ,it didn't fit the radio format, but
it still was A hit record,it sold five times more then prince's dirty mind.
i wonder how morris reacted to the experimental edge of the songs.
nobody could knew that "the time " will be hit.

Truth!!! I absolutely adore the Time's first and second albums...but the first is definitely all about Prince, with Morris as his understudy. Just plain 'ol nasty funk from beginning to end....it hasn't gotten much better than that! Long live "Get It Up"!

You mean so he went with controversy. So it basically his fourth album.

Personally, the first time album is definitely one of my favorite Prince albums, but I'm often surprised that Ice Cream Castles is often not put right up there. The band or the sound(because it's hard to tell if it was Prince or the Time) was more cohesive and developed. The image was clearer too, with Morris camping it up at his most hilarious. What does anyone think of the late eithties Time reunion album? I have it but it never really caught my fancy so I don't really listen to it.
