I honestly feel lightin struck that night , to RE-rail a purple train. Maybe woulda had some buzz due to RRHOF, but nothing like this. Still um diggin ev. min. ov. it. <=== It aint me, its da tea

If Columbia hadn't distributed this album, there wouldn't be nearly as much hoopla.

I think it was a combination of things.
The Grammys. The induction. The tour. The new album. The 20th anniversary of PR... etc. It's just time... and I couldn't be happier for him. |

It's a combination of RRHOF, Grammys, and Columbia putting its monetary muscle behind the new album. You don't get the type of attention Musicology is getting with an independent label. It ain't fair, but it's the nature of the beast. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

What I think is Zelaira should have been Prince's Manager long ago. But well WHY did it Take PRINCE 6 years for a Major TOUR? Was he Planning This to Coincide with PURPLE RAIN's 20th? Last big time I saw was in 1998. This was GREAT... O.K. so I missed 99,2000.2001 but well how Was It that He Really didn't get all This FIRE Going with the TOUR till NOW? He's like a Freaking FIREBOMB right Now and he's So EXPLODING ya Know. It's Sooo Wild and The WORLD is SEEING what WE Fans or Fanatics have Known Forever. That Prince is The Baddest Guitar Player EVER... And his Band is So Fabulous. God John Blackman is The ABSOLUTE BEST DRUMMER I Have EVER SEEN with PRINCE... This Is I gotta Tell Ya PRINCE"S BEST BAND . They are SO PERFECT TOGETHER. IT WORKS so GOOD. It's Such a GREAT LINE-UP!!! BRILLIANCE at WORK! We Fans Really are Getting such a Treat this Year. It is So Cool how many appearances our Baby is doing. Is that Not Great? It surely is So Happy. So Pleased and I said it .....Tis, Prince make ya Feel that way... Truly Heaven's blessed. Such Paradise watching him Perform...

Sans Sony's involvement with the album, I think after the two tv appearances listed above he may have gotten SOME of those who had forgotten about him to be reawakened enough to buy a small portion his catalog (especially his '80s albums). But not nearly as many people who might have bought the old stuff if his catalog was remastered/reissued. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

sorry boyz it has nothing to do with the grammies R&R
it has to do with COLUMBIA Now he's getting airplay shyt i even heard New Power soul on the radio! P got Columbia to Distribute for the Frequency the grammies would of been a lost P after a uproar in the fan community statng "Baby Im a Sell out" Prince did a smart thing he got Columbia to distribute it and promote it thus they are Paying for the Frequency for the Jukebox with a heartbeat (radio) its A shady system but P finally found a loop whole without having to join a recording roster seen so many comercials and so much radio time its ridiculous this never happed for any other indepent C.D. If P can Push 4 main singles we might have another D&P ladies and gents and this C.D. won't be a sell out one

The Grammys definitely started a buzz, but I think Columbia is really pulling out all the stops to promote this album (as is Prince...look at all the TV appearances, interviews, etc.) Oh yeah, I'm luvin' every minute of it too! "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

Me too.
Let's take up a collection to have Zelaira's shift key fixed. You better wake up, Stella. This is my town!

Without Prince's knockout performance on the Grammys, all the promotion and whatnot that Columbia's doing wouldn't have amounted to much...Musicology would have turned into another Rave (Arista didn't exactly slouch on promotion either)...that performance was the match that lit the fuse.

However, the Grammys worked for Ricky Martin, right?

I agree with the rest of the tread. It's a combination of all. I think if hadn't have made all these appearances he wouldn't be getting the buzz he's getting. Sometimes you got to get yourself right back out there to be seen and heard again and he's doing that and I'm proud of him. I knew 2004 was the 20 year mark for Purple Rain and I was hoping he would do something special and he did with the Grammys and the RRHOF.

I always felt like 2004 was the year that Prince had to do something big so when I saw the ad for the Grammy's with Prince on it for the 1st time after the Janet incident on the Super Bowl, my heart started to pound. I knew that if Prince didn't kick some butt, then the rest of the year would go bad. I prayed for a while and sure enough, it's the only thing most people talk about with this year's Grammy's.
I was hoping that Prince would have joined with Sony back in 1999 for Rave because I felt like they knew how to promote their artists. They had Ricky Martin blowing up that year, Destiny's Child, Mariah Carey, J-Lo, Celine Dion to name some who were big that year from Sony. When I heard he joined with Arista, I had a weird feeling about it but I thought maybe something good could come out of it. So much for that theory. I'm very happy that he's with Columbia and that they are promoting the mess out of this CD. Thankfully, it deserves all the praise and promotion that it's getting. It's GREAT to be A Prince Fan!!!!! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
