Starts at 2100, lasts 1 hour
Location: MTV, MTV2, VH1, BET, VH1 Classics Details: If you're watching one of Viacom's pop music-oriented channels (MTV, MTV2, BET, VH1, or VH1Classic) on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, you'll be able to choose from a wide variety of music specials featuring Prince, Prince, Prince, Prince, and Prince. In what Columbia Records (Prince's label) is calling an unprecedented simulcast, all five channels will air a 30-minute concert special to promote the recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee's new ''Musicology'' album. However, in a move that will tax your TiVo, all five shows will feature the same songs but different interview clips. See, who said corporate concentration of media ownership limits viewers' choices?
The show, which airs as ''Music and Words by Prince'' on BET and ''Prince: The Art of Musicology'' on the other four channels, will feature excerpts from a concert Prince performed last week at New York's Webster Hall, one of the impromptu club dates he's tossed into his current arena tour. Songs include the new ''Musicology'' and ''Dear Mr. Man,'' as well as a solo acoustic medley of his '80s hits. ''The support for 'Musicology' is wonderful. We're pleased to broadcast the 'Musicology' special throughout the Viacom music channels,'' Prince said in a statement. ''It is great to see audiences around the country embracing music again.''
