do u consider the Musicology single a hit? back in the day you only considered a single a hit if it made the billboard top 40 but things have pretty much changed with music downloads and singles not being released as retail and airplay only songs making the charts
so the question is since it looks like Musicology wont be a hit in the Billboard hot 100 chart at all basically because it's not getting any airplay on top 40 stations do you consider it a hit single? based on its #16 on the vh-1 Video chart #2 on the Mtv Video chart & it has been on the Itunes pop top 10 downloads for a few weeks now? Check it out ...Shiny Toy Guns R gonna blowup VERY soon and bring melody back to music..you heard it here 1st! http://www.myspacecomment...theone.mp3

People can't make singles hits anymore. It's all up to radio and as far as I can tell they are not bitting even if all the music channels are. I've been staying with my parents all week and the "Musicology" video plays very often (still not as often as the Mario Winans or Usher videos ut still). My little sister said she was home for spring break a few weeks ago and they played the video a lot and she loved it and liked the song. Young Prince fans..who knew!
The album charts don't always relfect the single charts...ask Norah Jones! It's a joke that only a handful of similar sounding artists dominate the radio. It's the same kind of hip hop, the same kind of R&B, the same kind of pop and the same kind of rock. Hardly ever a shake up. So disturbing!

It's a buzz creator...not designed as a hit single. It reminds me of what he did with Gett off and Sexy MF...creating awareness and promotion without seeking mass appeal. The song is seemingly for the core but the video (one of his best and most expensive in years) is designed for a wider audience. Sony will try harder to break through the radio next single out but this remains the only unknown variable in the Prince comeback. Will radio ever embrace him again or have they been burned by too many ill-conceived singles? All good things they say never last...

the strategy is a mystery to me - they only went for adds at R&B radio. The song could have been a hit at R&B, Top 40 and Adult Contemporary radio. How many albums would they have sold had they gone for all of the formats. As it is, it is doing very well here:
http://www.mmr247.com/mmr...format=u2R which is pretty much the only segment they targeted on radio. Currently #8 and looks to be in the top 5 in a couple of days. It's also a huge hit on the video channels. Will they ever go for the other radio formats. Between the strong albums sales, the strong concert sales, the strong airplay on the video channels, you'd think it'd be easy to get top 40 and adult contemporary airplay.
