I get Soundscan reports weekly and here's how our Princey did this week!

NOTE-'Purple Rain' sales figures represents sales since the Soundscan era began in 1991. Total sales are around the 13 million mark

oh i would love to get soundscan reports how much does that cost? or do u have to be in the industry to get it

What's the difference between 'The Very Best of Prince" and 'The Hits?'

Are the songs chopped off on 'The Very Best of Prince' like they are on 'The Hits?'

Yeah, some of them are. The big difference between the 2 is that while the Hits/B-sides is a (relatively) comprehensive collection of his work up until early '93, the Very Best Of, (which refuse 2 buy on general principle), is only 17 songs. Not even half the number thats on The Hits. They leave out some very important songs. There is nothing from For You, Controversy, or Dirty Mind. You won't find Could Never Take The Place Of Ur Man or If Was Ur Girlfriend, any track from the album, and they even omitted Pop Life.

Its still a reasonably solid collection of A-Sides, but u'r much better off with The Hits/The B-Sides.

wow! ive been wanting to know for fucking years how much sales are for the pop catalogue charts! thanks sooo much! i thought selling 13k a week though puts you in top 200? or is it top 100 where you get taken off the PC charts? still though, im sure its there or thereabouts for the top 100 too, about 10k a week will get you bobbing around the top 100?

weird how hits vol.2 is selling but there ya go. look like it could go double platinum, plus it looks like very best of should go platinum soon. just like i predicted! yay!

that's odd. i hardly EVER see the Hits 2 at any stores. there about 20 copies of the Hits 1 with that "includes 1999" sticker from back when they flooded the shelves with it in... 1999.

Hits 2 is a relatively rare find these days, in comparison to Hits 1. interesting that that's the one that charted.

The Very Best of Prince I think outsells the 3-disc set. SImply because it's ver sucinct and on one CD. It's been charting high for for a while on the Greatest hits charts. Though I am glad it's doing well, it was a WB thing and is sort of an insult that it was released...IMO.
