I'd have to say it's a push. While Invincible did have way too much filler, it had Butterflies and Rock My World. Two songs I would put in my top 20 all time MJ tracks. While Musicology is steadier, especially from track 5-12, it doesn't have a real "killer" track. Invincible was underrated while Musicology seems to be a bit overrated.

there you go, argumentation !!.

i always felt invincible was somehow underrated, so I hear you on that one. whether musicology is overrated, i don't know. maybe its to early to really know yet. reviews are overall good, though, and I agree, though I felt it was kind of week the first time I heard it. now i feel it is a master-grower and i dig the album.

Just to be clear, while I think Musicology is overrated, I like the album. Just don't see it as a 4 star album.

I don't know what neither what of you is talkin about because Prince's albums or Prince himself has never been overrated, if anything he's been underrated but MJ has. I didn't buy Invincible (thank goodness) I checked it out at the library and the only 3 songs I liked was Heaven Can Wait, Cry, and Heartbreaker. The rest was crap to me. I liked History better.

i have listened to both...

IN MY OPINION:

Invincible has a couple of good songs, butterflies and rock my world.
overall compared to mj's ability is 2/5 stars.

Musicology moves me more. I probably like about 10 of the 12 tracks on there. I just hate that it's so short.
overall compared to p's ability is 4/5 stars.

Both are very different albums from very different artists. MJ does music according to the industry at the time and P does his music from the heart.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

two of eighties combatants, what yo think of their newest releases. in comparison. despite of MJ's personal issues, invincible is an amazing record (with few weaknesses, though, such as 2000 watts or whatever its called) with good quality m.....therfuckin' well-produced sounds on it.
musicology on the other hand - a collection of good songs with its weaknesses as well, and maybe a comeback for prince ?

which record is the better ?

INVINCIBLE IS PURE SHIT!
MUSICOLOGY IS A MASTERPIECE!

Let's have a ping-pong match to decide it.

Helen Keller lost, which makes Musicology the winner.

MJ will be Inmate No.573538363634 this time next year anyhoo.

Prince the artist has been underrated but Rolling Stone, as well as many other reviewers, giving Musicology 4 stars means it's overrated IMO. But then again if you liked the songs "Cry" and "Heartbreaker" better than "Butterflies" or "Rock My World" then we aren't even speaking the same language.

Ouch! well if that doesn't happen, let's hope they collaborate on a musical project together.Didn't someone here say Prince wanted to do just that on a recent radio interview?

Well I'll have to be the minority and say Invincible is a awesome album, and it has many quality tracks, and strengths. Butterflies, Invincible, You Rock My World, Break Of Dawn (the best). I'm not saying it is better than Musicology (only heard 3 tracks from it so far), but Invincible is a very underated album.
It still has the MJ vibe to it, but new stuff mixed in. I think the album was not given a chance to succeed. I am not feeding into the MJ v. Prince battle, but am speaking on a work of a artist not a war that was done with by 1984-1986. Prince as said before has never been overrated, but underated on many things, but we have to cut MJ some slack to he has also come a long way.
Both the albums are unique in their own ways, and can never be fairly criticized. Just for the record I think MJ will be freed of all charges smile

Well, if I'm to believe this little article, Prince sure wasn't interested in working with MJ on Invincible...hard to believe he'd want to work with him nowadays:

I'm tired of this.

I'll say Stevie Wonder kicks both their asses just to try to stop this nonsense.

And he's blind too which means I win for sure, since obviously Stevie Wonder's blindness is the most remarkable thing about him. big grin

How he finds the on switch for his clavinet is pure genius and something both Prince and MJ could never do were they sightless.

Plus, Stevie's last, "Conversation Peace", was probably the greatest album ever in the history of ever.

Okay here is my speel or is that speal? I think Musicology just out and out beats the living hell out of Invincible. Now I like MJ alot but I love Prince still I can tell you as a longtime MJ fan Invincible was horrid. Let me tell you why
1. Overproduced by a man with too much money and refuses to act his age.
2. Nothing really new here. More dance schlock and 'we can save the world' stuff from MJ.
3. If you saw South Park last night they did a send up of MJ that was priceless. they basically ripped him but at the same time there was soooo much truth. I mean everytime 'he' sang he had the shamone's and he hes in there and it was too funny. That ultimately is how Invincible hit my ears. A very safe record with no artistic risks to speak of. Which would not be so bad if he had taken big risks on past albums then you could have said he was returning to form like U-2 did with there last record.

Musicology on the other hand much like U-2's last is an Artist returning to some familar territory with more than a few experiences to show along the way. That is the one thing I want to say to people when they say this album is nothing new. It really is. He wanted to show you old Prince in a new way and I believe that he has in sooo many ways. Musicology sounds inspired by a man who just loves what he is doing. MJ is a machine he can't really think outside of major record sales. I honestly feel that his self worth is based on sales. This saddens me because I think if he were to relax and just create he could really wow people with a more mature perspective. Prince is a very talented and arrogant (or at least he used to be) artist. The arrogance shields him from having to try to please everytime he records. This is a blessing and a curse because he can wander off for long periods of time before he pays attention to what people are asking of him. Thus in my mind the long wait for an album like Musicology.
So there I like both artist but really I was heartbroken when I heard Invincible. I just really thougt that it sucked outside of "butterflies" (and from what I hear floetry the girls that wrote the song do a better version than him) and "you rock my world." To me it is not even a comparison.
Peace

WORD!!!
I really think your assessment is right on. I listened to Invincible once, when it first came out. Except for a couple of songs, I wasn't moved by it. I agree that MJ is consumed with record sales rather than challenging his artistic ability. I honestly think he's wasted a lot of years and a lot of money. MJ has a great voice, and I'd love to see him do some different things musically. I definitely enjoyed Musicology much more. Here's my little food analogy for the day: I love a home cooked meal of diversity. MJ cooks up several dishes that all seem to taste similar, while P serves up a friggin' smorgasbord. wink .

sometimes even love the rest of it...

I'll tell you when I hear Musicology.

I thought Invincible was MJ's worst effort so far, but I still like half the album. If it was released by anyone but MJ it would have been critically acclaimed. It is no more uneaven and erratic then The Love Below. Most of the reviews of Invincible seemed to spend half the review talking about how wierd he is.
