Everyone thinks this is a comeback for Prince....Why??

Yes Musicology is a great album, but its an album for the "General Public". So he's playing the media game to get attention. For most of us who have followed his music for the past 25+ years this is just another album. Why call it a comeback?
In the past few years Prince has gone through different musical phases just like years past. The reson it seems like a comeback is because this album has struck the critics and the general public.
Prince has said before "I'd could write Purple Rain II, but why"? In this day in age music has been nothing but crap, Prince put out an album that rescued us from that crap.
I feel in my opinion if he released ONA Piano cd to the general public, and went on a media blitz it would've done very well. Who knows?
So its not a comeback. Its just a great album that we've needed to get over all the bubblegum music thats been around way too long!

Like I've stated several times: Prince is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. People keep complaining that he hasn't done a Purple Rain II or a Sign O' the Times-revisited, and that's mostly responsible for his "downfall." Then Musicology comes out and people are complaining that it's an album that he's "done before" and they want to hear something new. Problem is: we've already heard new directions in music, remember? Everyone bitches about the new stuff, then bitches about the old stuff.

Bottom line: it seems as if no one is fully satisfied. I hate to read all these reviews and shit about a "comeback." A comeback to what????? Prince has always pushed musical boundaries and set the standards for artistic excellence. Yet, few ever appreciate his contributions because it's not like fucking overrated Purple Rain. It's just so unfair to him...

it's considered a comeback because most of the world didn't even know he still made music. just because we spend countless hours a day on the org and npgmc and we know everything that's been happening with him, doesn't mean the rest of the world has any knowledge of his recent work.

for us, no it is not a comeback. but the term comeback is usually reserved for the masses, not the small loyal followings.

alandail

it's called a comeback because he hasn't had a top 10 single or had a top 5 album in a decade

AMEN!

it's a comeback because for the first time in eight or so years he's getting a lot of exposure through the 'accepted' commercial channels.

WE'VE been fans all along, but the rest of the world is 'rediscovering' prince, as the reviews are saying over and over. so in that sense it's a comeback

Sadly this is his 4th attempted comeback in the last 9 years. TGE, Emancipation, Rave, and now Musicology. So far this one has been the most successful.

For the last decade, if you wanted to know what Prince was doing or hear his new music, you had to seek it out. You definitely didn't hear about him on MTV or see him in the music rags on your local newsstand. Now he's everywhere.

Anyway, why should Prince or his fans get bent out of shape over them calling it a comeback? It's hardly a dis to say someone is successful again. He cultivated that low profile himself, and the media lovefest going on now is largely his own doing too. Just be happy he's finally taking the necessary steps to get his work the attention it deserves.
You better wake up, Stella. This is my town!

well, i'm a die-hard fan and even for me, this is a comeback, after all of the dire shit that he's been releasing for the last 8 years or so (albeit with a few decent tracks thrown in here and there every couple years).

i've always been partial to the Prince that actually tries to make good music that people who don't work for him could listen to and say "yeah, right on"

it's been quite some time since we've seen that Prince. i'm glad he's back. smile

i am a diehard fan to, and to me, this is a comeback too.

it is just a cool cd. not packed with long odd solos and attempt in every direction. just good and plain. and innovative at its places

it makes me mad that people like Britney Spears and Beyonce and who ever else is drilled into our memory on a daily basis are constantly talked about and real musicians like Prince have to make what they call a "come back" to get people to notice.

If the so called musicians of today stopped making music I wouldnt care

To me Prince never went anywhere...
