imagine what prince could have done over the last eight years or so if he'd terminated his relationship with WB, then signed with another entity after having had his attorneys proof-read the contract and established contract terms the way he wanted like he's done with sony this time around.

after all of his talk about how evil major record labels are, prince's about-face on this subject and his willingness to work 'with' the system at this point in time is a huge contributing factor to his current commerical success, imo. he's getting airplay and major exposure thanks in large part to sony's backing.

obviously he succeeds thanks to his own talent as well, but he's always had that to work with.

i think his current success is kinda ironic because although musicology is good, imo his output for the years he was independent was just as good if not better but went unrecognized because of his refusal to work with any of the evil record labels he used to bash

anyone else out there taking some heat from their friends for prince signing with a record label after fighting against the commercial music 'industry' for so long then (apparently) capitulating, signing up and receiving public accolades in a big way?

i'm telling them all 'hey, he had the groove all along, you just weren't listening'

right. but they weren't because he didn't lol

blah blah blah [excerpted for fun] wink

did too nod lol

hey KS. i'm just glad to see you back here. riling you up for fun, i am, and helping you to see the obvious error of your ways.

ummm.. say what? not sure i got your point, dear. lol

i like both rave and emancipation. emancipation is a few of my favorite albums. my point is, wouldn't the rest of the world have liked them too if they'd been promoted as well as musicology is being promoted?

I'm just illustrating the fact that he HAS gone the mainstream route since the break with WB (Rave was with Arista and Emancipation was with EMI). That's all babe. Peace.

hmm. but remember when he lit into clive davis because of what he saw as the lack of promotion for rave? and didn't EMI just basically distribute the work, not promote it? . .. i do see your point though.

yeah i know it ain't you up there. or, it is you up there, just the other you. the real you. both or neither, i mean there's only ONE King sausage, clearly, and the other King is gray so the difference is obvious even in the dark.

bah. WHY don't you people just stick to ONE screename like me? but noooo, gotta go around confusing simple minded folk. redface so, to conclude, welcome back biggrin

It seems everybody in the business has always regarded him as probably the best live performer . But his recorded output since WB has , for whatever reason , sounds like he's holding back - almost as if to say "this is too easy." Even what little material of his recorded by other artists ( like No Doubt's "Waiting Room" ) just seem flat . With all these R & B guys co-opting his sound , it would seem like a no brainer that he could use them to get some of his songs out there . At least he would have to be more "commercial" to do it . I like a lot ( ok , most ) of what he has done the last few years . But it's like rooting for your favorite team . They don't have to win every year , but it's exhilarating when they do .
