MUSICOLOGY DOES NOT SUCK That is all i have been reading the album sucks it is not good it does not sound like his old stuff hey listen if it sounded like his old stuff it would be boring the only thing i will agree on is that there should have been more guitar solos but other than that it is a good cd the songs are cool u just have to listen with an open mind and lets take a look at the bigger picture just think if prince had not made a new cd or went on tour at least he is doing something for his fans and all people want to do is complain if you dont like it then dont listen and dont go to the shows but the bottom line is if prince was not putting anything out there it would be pretty dead around here and in the music world for that matter.... I have to say that i prettymuch agree - I dont like how people who call themselves fans can criticise his work so much.. He and his work have changed dramatically over the years and i can understand how the mainstream people can dislike it so much but if you are to be a true fan then shouldnt you appreciate his work regardless of how 'like his other work' it is?! I for one think its great, Its not my fave album but i can appreciate his work. Just as TRC was so different to other work i could still enjoy it for what it is: something that prince has created and worked on and lucky for me released it so i could enjoy it Rox [This message was edited Wed Apr 21 9:54:24 2004 by Kkirgirl]

It's still a shit album. The count begins for the amount of time it takes for the world to forget about it. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

My 2004 August Highlights: *Tuesday 24th*-best day of my lifeI get my *LEARNERS*-Oh yeah it's ALL good!!

[This message was edited Wed Apr 21 20:18:55 2004 by raider1] Hey I hear you. I love this CD I really don't know what the hell else some people were expecting. Truth be told there are so many around here that actually hate Prince and his music that they can't give him any props on anything new that he does. So even if the album debuts at #1 and sells 10mill they won't give it props. I appreciate your post though. Peace THE CARDINAL HAS SPOKEN!!!

Its a cute time capsule of a record that has some great songs on it like Illusion & On the Couch.. but.. in general its easily my least favorite Prince album. Since many couldn't comment because the "Musicology Sucks" thread was pre-maturely locked.. let me briefly address four points... 1. The majority of the tracks on the album are boring.. Some say the compositions are boring compared to todays music Some say boring compared to his more creative albums in the past 2. A few of the tracks really do suck.. in that the more we listen to them, the more we want to skip to the next track. Let me be so bold as to say that Life O the Party & Cinnamon Girl sound very annoyingly amateur on a "Prince album" Compared to the better jams on the album.. many agree the album is out of balance. 3. Dozens of listeners who have heard the album said they tossed the songs into the recycle bin because of various reasons.. but the one thing I hear over and over with and agree upon is that Prince has already recorded this music before. Its like he took old songs like "Ballad of Dorothy Parker" stripped them down and re-recorded them. 4. Expectations. True many have too high exectations with all the hoopla of this maybe being a major comeback. But like it or not.. Prince is the name for a music LEGEND and as cute as the video and some of the cuts may be.. it works in some ways.. but in other ways it looks like he's trying very hard to say he is the schoolteacher and/ or he is the best. It gets to the point where he looks like an idiot or "a freak" in the eyes of the a younger generation. I feel sad about this.. because I remember how he re-captured the eyes of new generation with the Batman Soundtrack.

btw.. if you love the album or you don't.. there's no need in getting all upset because some flame it and some worship it. The big unanswered question is WHY?

It gets to the point where he looks like an idiot or "a freak" in the eyes of the a younger generation. I feel sad about this.. because I remember how he re-captured the eyes of new generation with the Batman Soundtrack. Well I hear you but I have to ask you this. How much ground did Springsteen blaze with 'The Rising?' or how much did U2 do with 'All that You Can't"? Why is it that Prince can't revisit some old territory? Personally I don't think he repeats himself that heavily on this album. The Ballad Of Dorthy Parker reference to "What do want me to do Girl" is grasping to me. Yes there are familiar sounds that he has used in the past but if you play the two songs back to back I'm sorry they are not the same song at all and they really don't sound alike outside of the same drum machine. I think that overall Musicology is being recieved quite well. I have heard young kids bumping the song but most importantly people outside of this org universe really seem to be enjoying the record. Do you mean to tell me you really don't like "The Marrying Kind" or "The Man in ur life" You don't like "ICPC", "Call my Name" or "On the Couch" or "A Million Days"? Do you really think that they are boring? "Life Of the Party" I can understand that not being for everyone but I love it becasue it is funny. See for me I can't agree that the album is out of balance because so many of the songs flow together so well. All I know is that I have been coming to this site long before I joined and all I have seen is people bitch about Prince's new music. There are some that try and discredit his complete 90's output which is very stupid but hey that's thier thing. I remember when TRC came out people treated that album much like this one. I honesty don't get what they want him to do. I think that alot of older fans are fighting there own aging issues through Prince. So that when he releases any album they feel they have to compare it to THIER PAST and then ultimatley to dismiss it because they can't feel the same way about Princes new music (or anything really) as they did when they were younger. I really don't take these attacks on Prince personal but it does make me wonder why so many people who profess to be fans don't just stop buying his new stuff, stop following his career and just bask in the glory of the past albums by him that they love so much. I mean that I could at least understand that. But we don't get that here we get a whole bunch of people who want to bitch about why Prince doesn't make another 1999. That to me is boring and predictable. Hey I appreciate you explaining to me why you don't like the album. You really helped explain some attitudes that I have encountered, but I have to stand by this one. I mean NEWS I loved but I could see why some people wouldn't. TRC not for everyone and quite honestly it took me more than a minute to get it. Musicology to me is just an awesome R&B Pop album that I think people should give a listen to and from the looks of things they are. Peace THE CARDINAL HAS SPOKEN!!!

i think the disc is his most fresh in ages. i loved trc but before that, shit, his last cd that had me by the balls was chaos and disorder. i still love that cd regardless of what some people think.
look at it this way, raider1, if you dig it, you dig it. we don't need anyone else to like it. and for those who think this record will quickly pass...i guess being wrong about prince's commericial appeal thus far hasn't been enough, huh?

What I said was that I can explain why so many don't like it.. actually I love some of the songs.. in fact ICPC is by far the best new song i've heard all year. Its at the top of my playlist and On The Couch was a fantastic addition to the album. What do you think of this? Maybe Prince was catering to the Age 5-10 group with the song Life O the Party "goodie for you". It doesn't work for many.. but maybe it would work for kids like "Superfreak" and "Funkytown" worked in the 70s.

[This message was edited Wed Apr 21 9:38:02 2004 by raider1] It's a pretty good cd. There are one or two weak songs, but on a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 7. Don't pay any attention to EWM - afterall he's a Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love fan and we all know how much those two suck the big bag! No offence EWM
