Cinnamon Girl - Radio Friendly? Production Quality? Whats everyones opinion of this song? It kindof turned out to be a highlight on the album for me.. It was nearly skipped everytimes just by the opening line of the song, althought (the guitar note/sound) was an interesting approach to open a song. Its obvious this album is a pop record, and in my opinion the production is very good, for a pop album. Cinnamon Girl is very different from a lot of its prince songs, because of its production.. The instrumentation, ect.. its polished sounding and it could be a successful song on the radio. For me, the more listens, the greater the song quality was noticed, and the hook is somewhat annoying at first and bland, but for me it was very acceptable after a few listens, and actually loved the simple and short guitar moments in and out of the song, Prince has a lot of control with his skills on the guitar...I think it turned out to be a well produced song with a different point of view, lyrically.

Great song i wouldn't reccomend it as a single tho Dear Mr. Man is more qualified as a single
my opinion anyways | |

I think Cinnamon Girl would do well on Top 40 stations because of its parts:
1) The "He's So Shy" keyboard/guitar line 2) The guitar parts 3) The song's brevity. 4) His "Bono" vocal delivery. As long as folks don't focus so much on the "down" lyrics, it should enjoy some chart success. [This message was edited Tue Apr 20 21:54:51 2004 by ThreadBare]

It was the first song on the album I felt would be a pop hit.
It's nice and simple rock. Just what radio loves. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

You're right - the opening line "The war drum beats in Babylon" is definitely terrible. The bridge part with the war references aren't that great either, but what the hell - it's a pop song.

Well just from a commercial point of view, this HAS 2 B a single. ...Your coochie gonna swell up and fall apart...

Yeah, it should be the third single after Call My Name. If he wants to push for a fourth I'd go for something not too obvious like What Do You Want Me 2 Do?

I've been saying it from the start....this needs to be a single. Let's hope the guys at Columbia/Sony feel the same way. This would be a definite hit, I think, on pop/top40 radio. Listen to those lyrics, and just imagine the video imagery.

Cinnamon Girl is veerrrry commercial . It should be released, would do well over here on things like Radio 2 for adults. I,C,P&C would do well on Radio 1, and X FM

that's a stellar opening line. "As war drums beat in babylon, cinnamon girl starts to pray"
he's telling a great story totally relevant to what's going on today. i think this is an awesome song. i don't know production wise what station could fit this song into their format. at least here in the tri state area. i hope it does well.

it's a pop song about war - the whole song is about/against war - so why do you think there is a problem with the first line? I like the whole thing and think it's a great start to the song. [This message was edited Wed Apr 21 6:07:55 2004 by alandail]

This song grew on me, and I like it.
I think what's most interesting is the way Prince takes a serious subject and intentionally gives it such a Pop treatment with a happy major chorus and all. Kinda contridictory 2 the lyrics... That's Prince. Gotta love it. G. "He's a musician's musician..."
