weirdest prince moment ever?

What in your opinion are the top 3 weirdest, most eccentric prince moments in history?

I would have to say the name change, the JW door knockin' and maybe that tora tora interview where he speaks through mayte.

Any other suggestions?

(I'm doing a big story on prince for a local paper)

Declaring on Oprah that all was fine with his newly born son even tho it had died a few days earlier.

Sueing and having all those thousands of fan sites closed down, causing shit over practically nothing and losing loads of fans along the way.

Being/acting as a drug inducing fool at the James Brown gig ('83), starting jamming rather funkily then went in2 a hypnotic trance, pretended 2 cry, tears his jacket off, then tries 2 get the crowd clapping by using signals which look like he usually use for his own band, then nearly crushes 2 death part of the front row as he departs the stage.....
err

Crazy shit!

how he twisted his hair in that that awful not really dreads but not really twists look when rave came out

the lollipop incident

and how all of a sudden when the symbol album came out he decided to use three times the usual make up he usually wears. This phase didn't end until after the gold experience....thank god.

I don't think the name change was all that weird.
I understood why he did it, so it was actually pretty cool.

I'm not sure he even understood why he did it. Or at least his spin on it has changed over time. Once he said it was due to some profound personal revelation. He told Oprah, "I did some, uh, therapy..." (you did a tab of what?), he decided he had two sides, blah blah blah. But the latest explanation was that it was a means of escaping obligations to WB. I dug it more when he claimed it was spiritual thing; even if it was kind of loopy it was textbook Prince. When he copped to it being a means of wriggling out of a contract he signed with both eyes open, I lost some respect for him.
You better wake up, Stella. This is my town!

Buttcheek pants.

The worse thing about it is that these happened at the same time. They anally violated him while he was wearing the pants.

P.S.

This thread just convinced me that he is twice as weird as I thought... and that's bad!

You've got a point. I found it cool from a creative standpoint, but I can understand it being a weird move business-wise. I've never been quite sure why he wanted out after initially being happy with the deal. I guess we're all entitled to change our minds, but a big contract like that is serious. I can see why Warner was irritated, but at the end of the day, they have the masters.
They could never really get too upset.

Why is Prince or anyone else obligated to spill their guts about the death of a child to Oprah? He had a right to say anything he felt would make it better for him and his family.

I'd go back to Oprah, when he said that his doctors or therapists had told him there was another person living "inside of him" and that "they" didn't know was sex it was yet.

hmm

The open letter to Madonna was pretty funny.

January 10, 1999:
Open Letter 2 Madonna
from The Artist:

Madonna: artist 2 artist, eye am sure u understand the connection eye feel 2 my music. U more than any1 at Time Warner knows the patience and care with which we give birth 2 creation... and u maybe moreso than any1 knows how much a new artist longs 2 find a place amongst "the chosen few" 2 flaunt those creations (and at the same time put food on one's table). Music lawyers, managers and execs make deals best suited 4 their futures as well as urs in most cases... OWNERSHIP OF MASTER RECORDINGS IS ALMOST NEVER AN ISSUE! (let's remember, it was 1978!)

Eye dreamt of u and eye at the Grammy Awards and felt a need 2 write this letter 2 u. In my dream, eye approached u and asked u if u remembered me, and u said "sure"... u were on ur way up 2 receive 1 of numerous awards u will no doubt receive that night, and eye asked u 2 help me with my fight 2 retain ownership of my legacy and u said, "eye don't own ur masters,
Time Warner does... if it was my company, u could have them."

"But eye say 2 u, dear sister, it IS ur company as long as u remain in their graces... 4 all Artists, Madonna, make a stand 4 what is RIGHT... surely they will listen 2 u!" In the dream u seemed 2 feel me and yet u were a bit non-committal... so as u approached the podium, eye followed u, and as we stood side by side, eye said, "b glad this is a commercial break!"
and eye walked offstage and looked 4 Wyclef. Interpretaions aside, artist 2 artist, "U Can Help Us... and eye know u will becuz u REMEMBER ME."

I still dont see what was so weird about Prince at that James Brown concert. Neither Prince or MJ were ready to do anything and it was obvious. It was all made up on the spot after walking through the crowd to get to the stage. Riding in on Big Chick is classic Prince shit! I loved it. It is part of that funky stuff that he did to make himself a legend. Of course some of it was just gimmicks. He admitted as much on the Chris Rock interview. It was rock n roll.
