The Master Tapes hmmmm Going through an old Prince video I saw the interview with Kurt Lowder on MTV during the "Rave" days... prince explains that in his vault there is "the real erotic Prince" also a more Psychodelic version of the time.... songs that the revolution thought were too far gone in the 80's etc...
Kurt asked him... will we ever see this... Prince's reaction was "Oh Yes Ill give it away" Im sad to say that im yet to own an authorised version of extralovable or any of the above mentioned Prince styles from the Vault ... Im all for new music... but the fams that have been there all the way.. really should get the privellage of owning authorised recordings of these so called Masters. Im just sad about it and thought id have a sooky la la in the forum... any 1 feel me? Music is the power.

Any song Prince officially releases is examined and raked over to the extreme. Is it any wonder that he is reluctant to release it willy-nilly? He only wants to release stuff he thinks is ready and right for the time.
I imagine going back and finishing off a lot of this old stuff would be too much like a chore - a bit like going back to an essay you wrote at school 20 years ago and trying to re-write it - the initial creative impulse is gone, so why bother? I'm sure a lot of it sounds very dated to his ears now and he'd rather be measured against new music. As I've said before, the vault stuff is probably more like a painter's book of sketches - raw material to dip into and draw inspiration from. As for the many songs which we have heard bootlegs of that sound completely finished, well, every artist/band has songs that don't make the cut, that aren't good enough at the time for release, to then years later release them is to be measured against essentially your poorer stuff. Unless you make it clear it is a retrospective kind of thing - I have a 7-cd box set of 'Rare Cult' of rare, unreleased music by The Cult and it is excellent. If Prince did something like that, it would be great although probably commercially not very good sense. | |

In the interview Prince says he will give this music away.... we can buy musicology at a store.. or a concert... why dont members get free music from the vault... now that id pay good money for.... its good for the fans and even though its not about the money... (yeah right) its good business. The demand has been created and now im getting tired... im just a frustrated anti-bootleger i think... oh well there is always that to resort 2. Music is the power.
