That pic is from the "Gangsta Glam" video, right? Where they were hanging out near Prince's swimming pool.

Screen grab from one of the videos on the Diamonds & Pearls video collection ~ I haven't watched in ages, but it might be straight from Jughead.

Again...let's consider words and phrases like, "In my opinion..." or "I think...."

Nobody is the ultimate arbiter of what music is good or bad.

Excellent point. I think it's important to say "I don't like..." as opposed to saying "Musicology is bad". Simply because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's a bad album.

I've been a diehard Prince fan for years. I look forward to every album with excitement. His music has been the soundtrack to my life, just like the rest of you. But after listening to Musicology, I have to say, I am shocked at how absolutely dull and uninspired it is.

Would I say this to Prince's face? No. I love the man for all he's done, and respect his talent immensely. Are there a couple of decent tracks on the album? Sure. The song Musicology is funky. But...

After several listenings, I can't believe he would release something so incredibly bland by his standards. There's not one track on the whole album that stands out or stands apart from anything he's ever done before. The slow jams sound just like every other slow jam he's made before. Every song has a similar sound to something he's done before, only he did it better the first time. There's not one tune that should make a greatest hits album, not one song that will be remembered 20 years from now. I put this in the same catagory as his "Old Friends For Sale" album that WB recently put out..

i see what you are saying here, and when i first heard it, i thought it was garbage. I think Illusion, pimp etc is just trash, but then after 10 listens, i got the rest of the album.. I really really like it.. I wouldn't compare it to Old friends for sale. There are a couple of incredible tracks on there.. 5 women, and she spoke to me are in my opinion 2 of the best genre tracks he ever wrote.

Well, whatever. I bought Musicology last Friday and been playing it non stop, I don't know but to me it's an album easy to approach. It got nice reviews here, it's regarded as the best stuff he's done in nearly ten years.

I mean come on, 'If Eye Was The Man In Your Life', 'What Do U Want Me 2 Do', 'Cinnamon Girl', those are really nice tracks.

Well, to each their own, you know. I like the album, it has really grown on me. However, I can see how the "diehard" fan might not be impressed. Honestly, I think this album is not intended to impress the diehard fan. Rather it seems like an attempt to reach out to the masses, if you will, with a "commercial" album.

I have not purchased a prince CD for *years*, so when people talk about Prince repeating himself with this album, it doesn't register with me because I have not heard his entire body of work (nor do I own it). So what I'm getting at is, if Prince was trying to put together an album to reacquaint the listeners who stopped listening years ago, I think this album is dead on.

Ahh, anyway, "Musicology is NOT good" is NOT a fact.

Prince has said himself it's a pop record, and I love it. Great songs, great lyrics full of an interesting perspective on US politics, sweet romantic depth, and a great flow to the album altogether.

I always wondered which album I felt better between TGE and Musicology the latter has won because it sounds more "natural" to me. I feel TGE-although a real strong funky effort-sounds a little aged to me. Am I the only one feeling this?

I can't speak for everyone, but I consider TGE to be the under appreciated "Purple Rain" of the 90's.

I think it's one of his best albums, period.

STOP!! That's your problem! Remember that little quote Prince had on his website, "you must lower your expectations to fully enjoy your experience". Well, I'd hate to say it, but it's true..at least when it comes to Prince.

Now with that said, I thought I was going to hate Musicology, so I had NO good expectations at all. But I was really surprised with A Million Days, Ilusion, Coma Pimp..., Dear Mr. Man, Cinnamon Girl and On The Couch. Now, I still HATE HATE HATE Life O The Party (can ya say PUSH IT UP!), but for the most part, I'm am thoroughly satisfied with Musicology.

I can still say "THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING GOOD ON A PRINCE ALBUM!" nod

I realize it's all relative, and that many of you like this album. I for one thought that "The Rainbow Children" was fantastic and brilliant and completely inspired--his best work in years. I also surprised myself by becoming a fan of "New Power Soul", which I thought had some fantastic trax.

But "Musicology" -- it just doesn't deserve to be getting all these good reviews--it doesn't. Because it's not that good. Prince has done, and can do, much much better.

I AGREE!.....BUT...I hope Prince sells a BILLION cus he's been way underated for decades!!
