How can some people hate If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life?

This track is slammin', ya'll.

Worst song on the album, some of you say. I don't get it. It's high quality stuff.

Totally agree with ya Digital. This song is probably the only bona fide "prince classic" on the album. Has a sort of parade feel about it, full of hooks. Its my favorite by a mile

My only problem with the song is that it's too short. I'd love to hear a longer version.

Maybe If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life? (highly explosive) or something to that effect. Play out that jam for 6 or 7 more minutes and I'd be thrilled.

ITA!!!!! IIWTMIYL and TMK need to be listened to together as a unit. I think that's why the song is so short. I think he means to have them played as one unit. I totally think he should release these songs as a double single. I love it! Great song!

How can some people hate musical productions? An interesting question, we'd need to dive into freudian psychoanalysis to answer that question.

Interesting, this song doesn't remind me of Parade. How did you arrive at these kind of connotations, Maple?

I just think that if you're a Prince fan and you visit this site and post discouraging comments about the song then you have issues because this is classic Prince, imo.

We ALL have issues. That's why we are probably driven to listen to pop music in the first place, let alone discuss it so passionately in the internet. I don't think it's at all surprising that music like this produces diverse reactions as it is all in the nature of this style of music ("soul music"). However, yes I do agree that all these personal hate threads towards this or that one track that most people seem to love are quite redundant.

Sounds like Blackwell on the drums on this song. Is it? I didnt know Prince could rip like that on the skins - if it is not Blackwell.

I love this song...although, The Marrying Kind-If eye Was The Man In U're Life are
one in the same song...a continuation. The goofy break off at the end of TMK, which leads
into IIWTMIUL tells me that Prince intended this to be one song. Maybe he broke it down
into 2 because he intends to use one as a single...hmm
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Just the feel maybe Nova. It's has a quirky playful vibe which i love. Or it could be the piano line tha runs through it along with the wah guitar bits. Its also incredibly catchy!!. After listening to the whole album a couple of times it was the song i wanted to immediately deconstruct over and over again (ah his 80s stuff!). Great album overall though. The hooks and melodies are back!!!

I think it's a great song. I love that TBO-esque piano.

I love Marrying Kind more though.

Haystack

I assume, by the way the two songs are linked, that Prince is singing the songs to the two parts of the same couple.

The Marrying Kind is being sung to the boyfriend, and If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life is being sung to that boyfriend's about-to-be-ex girlfriend.

If you see what I mean.

Or maybe I'm talking shite.

Or maybe it's really obvious and there's already been a thread where every single Orger posted this observation?

When I first listened to the song, I was blown away in the first 15 seconds. The tightness of it all! And the little extra "ungh" he throws in there. Classic!
Very catchy tune. I've awakened with the chorus on my mind quite a few times in the last few weeks.

I like the way "The Marrying Kind" segues into it and the way it dissolves into "On the Couch".

The first 15 seconds remind me of SAIMH and 17 Days. I didn't know if we'd ever hear another SAIMH again, and our guy has delivered!

Could be devastating live.

I would be willing to stake my good name (my actual real name) on the argument that if this song was released as a single, it would be a top ten hit for sure.

It is by far my most favorite song on the CD. It has a catchy cadence and a good hook. You can't get it out of your head . . . and not in a bad was like "Come On Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Riders.

Damn! Now I have that song in my head!

I like it, too. Coupled with The Marrying Kind. It's fantastic. Now, I think Cinnamon Girl is the weakest track, eventhough I still like it.
