I made it a point to get to Best Buy before lunch time, so there weren't a lot of people in the place. Nothing happened of significant note to announce, but there were a gang of TRC copies. Seems like there were more copies of TRC than Musicology.

Borders is being greedy neutral They're selling Musicology for $13.99.

When I walked into my local HMV to pick it up, there was a 40 year old dude dressed in a buisness suit and suitcase in hand checking out the album. I was somewhat surprised 'cause I don't think I've ever seen anyone, let alone a 40 year old buisness man, checking out the latest Prince CD! (usually I'm the only one neutral ) I'm only 22 and it really hit me that there must be heaps of casual fans from the Purple Rain era who have suddenly awakened and it's 2004 already, and yeah, there's a new Prince album. How cool would that be!

I had the same businessman with a breifcase experience when I bought “Rave” (that was 5 years ago...I’m so old). The yuppies love the Prince!

I went into Circuit City around a quarter to 11am. It was slow but there were people walking out of the store with small bags and they where either buying CDs or DVDs. I figured someone had to have bought “Musicology” but guess I was the first at the store. The woman was looking at it and commented to the clerk “Oh, these must be new songs.” Do people under the impression “Musicology” is a greatest hits CD with a new title cut? Anyway, I asked if a lot of people were buying it and they said no but a lot of people were calling and asking about it. Pretty good sign and pretty good album.

I saw ya on the way to Beast Buy - I was on my way back home from there. I woulda said hey but the bus driver was being uncooperative. biggrin

were you on the bus or waiting at the stop? i'm so oblivious to the world around me when i'm out and about that i probably wouldn't have noticed you unless you started screaming my name. or wore this:

That so should have been the cover for the album! Anyway, from all the stories I would be very surprised if the album didn’t debut at number one. Anyone notice people picking up the Mario Winans CD? Why do people think that CD is going to do better?

I purchased an on sale copy from the (wreckut) CD section of my local BB in L.A. this evening.
While I was scanning the rack for other Prince offerings, I felt the presence of some other people near me. Feeling rather confident that they were looking for Musicology, I turned and said "Here it is." (pointing to the appropriate rack location.) It was a friendly married conservative looking couple (late 30s maybe). We started talking about which concerts we'd be attending, laughed about the Dave Chappelle bits and continued looking through the Prince selections. As I flipped through the rack a copy of Dirty Mind came into view. This woman literally shrieked at about 90 decibels! She started dancing around the aisle and said to her husband "We can go now dear."

I ran into them again at the checkout counter where she told me that she was so happy to find a CD copy of Dirty Mind to replace her original vinyl copy. She said she'd worn it out from playing it everyday when she got home from school. Cool couple.

As far as this particular BB's "fruity picks":
Musicology
ATWIAD
Dirty Mind
TRC
Scandalous Sex Suite
Purple Rain
The Very Best Of
Parade
Rave

peace Tribal Disorder

I've decided not to buy Musicology's retail version yet (as I already have the WinMX download version). If it ends up selling five billion copies, like a lot of you have predicted, I think I'll buy the mandatory limited edition with all the cool graphical thingamajiks and the extra CD containg the five extended remixes of "Dear Mr. Man" and the reunion get-together song by Prince with Wendy & Lisa and Tony M.

... and if it doesn't sell that well I'll just pick it up from the bargain bin for a fiver. Snickers!

I didn't know it was out yet (it came out earlier in Holland) so I was talking on my cellphone while browsing the record store. Then I realized they were actually playing the album I wasn't expecting for another 5 days. So I ran to the new releases bin and frantically flipped through them with one hand (still on the phone) and in doing so, I knocked over a stack of cd's and broke a couple of cases, much to the store-owner's chagrin. But hey, he sold me the album a minute later and I didn't even have to pay for the cd cases...

Bought it today after work along with the DVD of Michelangelo Antonioni's Blow Up. The clerk asked if I had bought tickets to Prince's show. I can tell people are kind of curious abour Prince these days. The cd was right next to the cash registers, plenty of copies.

I wouldn't be surprised if I never listen to my store-bought copy of Musicology - the freebie from the concert has been the one making the rounds up till now, so I figure why mess up the copy I paid for when I can keep on toting around my freebie copy?

Good point - I'll do the same b/c that digipack is gonna get FUCKED up in time nod

Bought mine before work @ my local Rasputins. Was glad to see it was @ the top of the "new releases" rack - the first thing you see. NICE biggrin What's not so nice is the price - I paid $14.99 b/c I couldn't think of where a Best Buy was near me or my job sad And as I rode along the freeway what do you think I saw as I neared my exit?? eek FRIGGIN BEST BUY!! mad

I'll just say... I felt uncomfortable buying Dirty Mind.

Anyway, I went to Best Buy about 5 minutes after they opened and bought it. There were still plenty of copies, but, well, it was 5 minutes after they opened.

Sorry to hear that but to those people that don't live near a Best Buy or don't know where one is you can search the net for a location and what about Circuit City? They got it for the same price. THe funny thing is though, where there is a Best Buy, there tends to be a Circuit City only a few miles away.

I went to best buy on my lunch hour. Walked into the store, went down the Prince isle and picked up the cd. I then took it to the counter where I saw the Entertainment weekly mag. with him so I decided to buy that also. The sales clerk gave to me for free. mr.green I did notice an unusally large amount of older Prince cds, as well as a lot of Musicology cds, available. At least this time they weren't randomly scattered throughout the Procol Harum, Elvis Presley, and Robert Plant cds.

I saw it last year and found it really cool, how weird to see Jimmy Page....

I love Blow Out.

I walked into Breast Buy yesterday around lunchtime, and upon entering the store, walked past a guy just coming out of the store with his standard yellow bag. biggrin He stood right at the trash can opening up his copy of the CD. Just as I thought that the comment "nice choice" was only heard by my brain, he replies with "thanks"..... eek

There are only two songs that I don't like. life 'o' the party and Cinnomin (sp) girl. It sounds like a 4th grader could have written that one and it looks like I spell like one .

bought mine in virgin in the uk for a tenner. plenty of copies but i went during a really quiet period. went into HMV to check it out and it seems a couple of copies had been sold. they had it on a stand with the very best of, d&p.

i thought scandalous sex suite was an illegal cd?!?!?! wasnt it one prince was on about as being illegal or something. how weird is that! and why stock on the NPG maxi single?!

re: rainbow children, wonder if that will sell any more copies. how many i mean. its weird people are now stocking up on prince cds, hope some of them chart on the pop catalogue charts. would be cool to know how many of his older albums have been sold because of musicology.

i cant believe how well the album is selling. its mental. i really want him to get to number one though, it would be a shame if it got to number 3 cos they didnt ship enough thinking it wouldnt sell.

Oh my gosh! I could like...just rip Boarders a new one. See if i ever buy another Sopongebob Square pants from them. Boarders must be in cohoots with WB 'cuz they had ten copies of the Best of Prince but not a hair of Musicology.

So I went to Newberry Comics, not only did they have it (notice a row was missing - wonder what that could imply) but it was on sale for $9.99. So for the price of one cd, i obtained two copies of Musicology - 1) the download and 2) the actual album.

By the way, did anybody notice how so much better some of the tracks sound now that they are continous?

it was a sunny tuesday afternoon.. The new, fresh, Circuit City just opened weeks before the cd dropped.. I started thinking back and realizing that Prince had a cd comin out today, although I bought it online.. i decided to just go on and get it on cd format.. cause of the funkay artwork.. so I pull in.. I walk in the store.. and they have the new prince cd front row.. I smiled, and a little pee came out, but i remained cool. I looked over at who I was with and said.. There it is.. grabbed it.. I could almost smell the new booklet through the shrink wrap.. I danced, started a little musical.. everyone followed in and I asked everyone if they remember the old school.. many just with a puzzled look, cause they were young.. so I stopped and went to the circuit city counter.. she asked me if I found everything I needed.. I said "yes".. swiped my mastercard.. and typed my pin in.. there I go.. out the door with the hot fresh new prince cd.. i've already heard.. I pop it in and check out the crappy fonts.. then indulge in the little musicology booklet..

zat good enough? wink

I went to the department store at the Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar and I went to the Cd section and there it was. I saw that a few CD had been sold. It was sold for $9.99 but they tried to make me pay more for it but I caught it and they put money back on my card.

I went to Best Buy today because I was looking for some CD cleaner so I decided to check the New Release section and there was a shelf for Musicology that had no CD's. I could see that this CD has been selling. But before I left, I wanted to observe the people and I saw these 2 people, probably mother and son, and the mom immediately picked up Mario Winans CD and then I saw the son looking at the selection and then I see him pick up Musicology and not put it back. I left the store with a smile on my face. Nice way to end the night.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
