Post about your "Musicology" buying experiences here

I'm going to run out in a little while and pick up my copy of "Musicology" from Best Buy. Share any interesting/unique/fun details that you experienced and/or noticed while getting yours. It doesn't have to be anything big -- it's all in good fun.

I'll post mine when I get home today.

Peace, David

When I walked into my local HMV to pick it up, there was a 40 year old dude dressed in a buisness suit and suitcase in hand checking out the album. I was somewhat surprised 'cause I don't think I've ever seen anyone, let alone a 40 year old buisness man, checking out the latest Prince CD! (usually I'm the only one neutral ) I'm only 22 and it really hit me that there must be heaps of casual fans from the Purple Rain era who have suddenly awakened and it's 2004 already, and yeah, there's a new Prince album. How cool would that be!

well just left best buy like 45 minutes ago. I thought that they opened up at 9 and got there at 9:30 but they opened at 10 so i had to wait.

got in the store and literally walked past the prince cd's i was expecting them to be where the other cd's were at, but they were on a table.

picked up musicology, come, the scandalous sex suite and rainbow children. just figured i get the ones i don't see often in the store. so i racked up on my collection.

now i'm here listening to the album. i have some fav's

for right now its what do u want me to do, and on the couch. i'll have to listen a little more for few more times to really give my true favorite track.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Had to tell I was going on a trip to South Africa (in a remote area of SA) where buying Musicology was impossible to get my copy on Saturday (before the official release date)!!!!

They had lots and lots and LOTS of copies of Rainbow Children stocked up at my location. I was hopin' they'd have a copy of "For You" I could get on sale, but no such luck. Poo.

It felt good to buy a new Prince album on the release date again, though. biggrin

I just dished out over 2,000 bucks on bills...

I'm sort-of disapointed that this will be the first time I'll have to wait until next pay-day to get it. I've always able to get it on release day, but oh, well. I didn't have children before. I thought I had an extra 20, but then I looked at the gas gage of the car and there went my last buck. But hey, my family has food in the fridge. I'll have to start a "prince-fund" jar for these occasions. Darn priorities!

I guess I could have made them eat macaroni and cheese until friday though.

No kidding! It's always been that way when I've picked up a new Prince album. Even the cashier acts all suprised like he/she didn't even know there was a new album on the shelves.

And how many people have gotten from the cashiers questions like "I thought he didn't go by Prince anymore" or "Ain't he Gay?" like you must be gay to buy one of his albums. If I was buying a barbara streisand record... ok, you can give me that look. Then you kinda feel obligated to explain the name change issue (and a few others) and feel like a big ol prince-geek when you walk out of the store.... (because you know for a fact, you don't know half as much information on any other artist)

that is so true! lol

whenever i wear a prince shirt or have any p paraphernalia i get those questions. but rather than feel like a geek, i get those looks...you know, the ones where the peeps are like "how can you possibly know all that" or "umm, stalker?", lol. its all good. if these people can know the details of who britney spears is dating, we can know prince's legal battles.

Spunky

Bought my copy of musicology yesterday at HMV about 5pm, there were only 3cds left on one of the two racks in was displayed on during the morning. Maybe the stores did not expect it to do so well? The reviews of the CD in the UK has been extremely positive. The best review I read was in the Observer news paper. So far the CD appears to be doing extremely well. I beleive a lot of people out there are and were open to prince's music but because of all the negative stuff out there were afriad to purchase his album because he was seen as strange, not cool and bit of a wierdo etc.

I will be extremely surprised if the album does not enter the UK chart in the top three.

I listened to the CD 3 times yesterday and to say the truth I found it disappointing, but as with a number of Prince's album after a few listens they grow on you and I find that the albums that on initial hearing sound good later turn out to be not his best.

I wouldn't be surprised if I never listen to my store-bought copy of Musicology - the freebie from the concert has been the one making the rounds up till now, so I figure why mess up the copy I paid for when I can keep on toting around my freebie copy?

Not to worry. I was on the bus. But I was dressed like that. I was on my way home from posing for a trophy sculpture, see - and I figured I'd drop by Best Buy for the new Princey abbum.

Just got back from Tower (it's the closest "wrecka stow" near work). I walked by the big display near the entrance to the R&B section and they did not have any copies filed under 'prince.' I was about to ask for help when I saw some skater dude holding a copy.

I was at Amoeba last night and they told me they had them in the stock room and they could not put them out until the 20th.

Anywho...just watched the video...and I will listen to the disc in it's entirety at lunch, in the peaceful comfort of my car.

Best Buy had loads of 'em...loads of TRC too...and the HITS...
Nice to see that Musicology was movin' though, the first shelf was GONE.

I waited in line behind a guy who was buying the David Chappelle season 1
DVD. The cashier was making small talk about the show! DUDE, I'm waitin'
to open up Musicology and tear into that booklet, I don't want to hear:

"say your name, then say 'bitch' after it"

"try it, WHAT's your name?"

"I'm John, biatch".....oh, how that amused our simple minded cashier!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I just got back from Best Buy. I bought Musicology along with Usher's new CD. I would have gone early this morning, but my brother was celebrating 4/20 a little too hard and forgot to take me to get it. They had a lot of copies of Entertainment Weekly around too.

I just purchased my copy from Sam Goody in downtown Minneapolis. They have a big display with a bunch of posters hanging up. I asked the lady behind the counter what they are going to do with the posters when they take the display down. She told me they just throw them away unless I wanted some of them. So I gave her my cell number and she taped it to the back of one of the posters and said she will call me when they take them down! woot!

They will look great in my basement with all my other Prince memoribilia!

The New Release Rack only had 2 Musicology cd's left...and thats stationed right up in the front of the store!

Just got mine at Best Buy (in the US). They had tons and they're selling for $9.99. Also picked up The Scandalous Sex Suite (wanted some extras!) and the maxi-single for "New Power Generation" (another extra!). They had TONS of other Prince discs too, including a complete restocking of TRC, the hits, the very best of, (sorry Anxiety) For You, etc.

I'd say your priorities in life are pretty skewed! First things first!! mac'n'cheese is pretty yummy, it's not like they'd die of starvation or something!

wink wink wink wink wink wink Just kidding of course. nod

For my part, I picked up Musicology today at the BX on Travis Air Force Base (California, not too far east of the Bay area). I was surprised, no more like shocked , that they had it out on display on the day of release (on the special rack with the other recent new releases). The BX usually lags behind on stocking everything, not just music; I figured I wouldn't see it there for a week or so. Maybe Sony really IS boosting this thing like crazy?! No "Sony Sucks" signs for Prince, methinks... giggle

Bought mine at Best Buy in Culver City, CA. I saw four people go to Prince's section while I was there. I also saw a brother pick up a copy, walk around the store some and then discard it. In any event, it was more interest than I have seen in one of his new releases in a long time.

I threw on my 2003 Prince Aussie Tour t-shirt and got into the city HMV as quickly as I could for the Australian release of the Musicology single. It hit me right as I walked in, at the front in the 'Best Seller' section. biggrin Purchased from the oddly silent clerk in the dance music section. Walked out making every attempt to show it off.
