Since when did Prince fan care about the charts

I'll be the 1st to admit-I love this recent flurry of Prince mainstream media hype. If nothing else, I love having more Prince stuff to blow my $$$$ on. However, a trend that baffles me is Prince fans suddenly being concerned with our boy on the charts. Hey if Musicology hits top 10 anything more power to whomever.

But what does it really mean? With new chart success? Will Prince be inspired to go back and remaster/reissue the old stuff?

I just try to keep in mind that Dirty Mind didn't even go gold until 1984 and Diamonds and Pearls was a #1 album. So chart success doesn't really indicate quality music (like you didn't know this) it just indicates quality marketing. Any of PRince's albums (Newpowersoul included) could have garnered him this much publicity with the right marketing.

See I really don't care about it because I know Prince is the badest! Who cares if Prince is not big with the other young people these days! No one should care about it! As long as you like him and listen to him that is all that matters! nod

I dunno, they marketed the shite out of Rave Un2 and well... you know lol Just kidding. I agree with you. If it makes the charts, then good on him, if not, I know I'm digging it.

I know I dun care as a matta fact it'll be more of his stuff(music & materials) out there cuz so many pplz probably wouldn't botha 2 buy it if he ayn @ on da top charts.

I never thought HE cared about the charts either, but you can tell from his recent activities that he's trying to reclaim the charts.....I just like to see him out there, but in my opinion he's not making music that can make it to #1 anymore. Not that #1 matters to me, I'll still buy the CDs and play them over and over and over again.....

For me, Prince doing well on the charts is an act of vengeance against people (the ones I'm sick and tired of) who write him off as too eccentric or too irrelevant. We know the deal, but nothing talks like the numbers. And a good dose of "shut the hell up" would be in full effect to all who talk without knowing.

So I would personally LOVE to see a pop hit and a #1 album. He's due...we are too. NEEDED? You should only feel it's needed if you believe that he hasn't done ONE good thing since "Diamonds and Pearls." Anybody feel that way?

Anybody?

That's what I thought. Heh.

You took the words right out of my month!

It's not like MY opinion of Prince will change if Musicology doesn't hit the top of the charts. BUT after all these years 'standing by my man' in spite of everything and for the last 6-8 years having to say "NO, he's not retired..YES he still puts out music" it would feel good to see him get the mainstream attention he deserves...

Hmmm, it matters because Prince has always operated within the pop field. That success at least represents symbolic fulfillment and all the better if his fans are able to feel it too. It's pretty simple: it matters to a point, because the craving for commercial success is built within the form of his own music.

The radio is boring enough without having Prince add to it. So we would like to see him chart when he puts out something worthwhile.

No, D&P never went to #1 in the U.S. although "Cream" did go number one pop single. His last number one album was "Batman."

I've always cared about Prince in the charts because I want ppl to be buying and listening to his records!! And there's nothing wrong with that...

i agree that it would be great to see the album a hit on the charts..i have spent many years defending Prince and why i like Prince and i think i deserve to tell the doubters see i told you he's still popular!! lol

but more importantly commercial success leads to more tv and radio interviews,,music videos that we can actually watch on MTV or VH1,,magazine covers and articles

here's an example i am a big Norm Macdonald fan and for like 2 years he wasn't do anything at all..no howard Stern No Leno no Letterman then he gets a new stcom on fox "a minute with stan hooper" and all of a sudden he was on every talk show it was great..and i told somebody i hope this show is a hit! and they go "why?" if u like it who cares! well...the show lasted 6 episodes and was canceled now where's Norm??? nowhere to be found again...so if the show would have been a hit i would still be able to enjoy my favorite comedian

in other words if u enjoy seeing Prince more often you should be hoping for Musicology to be a success comercially
Check it out ...Shiny Toy Guns R gonna blowup VERY soon and bring melody back to music..you heard it here 1st! http://www.myspacecomment...theone.mp3
