my aunt had a copy of "For You" back when it came out and bought ever album since. i would listen and stare at the covers whenever we visited (every weekend). my 1st PRINCE album of my very own was PURPLE RAIN. my grandmother bought it 4 me 4 X-MAS 1984. i was 12.

Purple Rain for sure. I remember:

- Hearing "When Doves Cry" in the car with my mom. I remember the lyrics about mothers not being satisfied sticking out like a sore thumb, my mom was kind of puzzled and taken aback by the weirdness of the song. And I remember thinking it sounded so ... well, I didn't have the word for it at the time but when I think back it seemed "postmodern" to me. And very defiant in a way. And I remember kind of identifying with it.

We bought it on (a very early pressing!) of CD and played the heck out of it that summer. I bought the ATWIAD cassette myself and played the HECK out of it and Sting's first album during 1985. Parade as well.

Became a somewhat more casual fan until 1992, when that album blew me away and I saw my first show in 1993. Then I heard a bootleg and it was all downhill from there.

It was 1982 or 1983. Hot Rocks used to advertise on MTV. They had a cheesy video/commercial and you could buy records and tapes over the telephone. It was ahead of it's time Seems kinda ancient now considering the internet. I don't think the company was around long, but I'm glad I was a resourceful kid because my mother refused to buy 1999 for me. She said Prince looked too pretty. Can you imagine? I thought that was part of his charm. He was/is a pretty-ass mf, who happens to be a genius to boot. Does it get any better?

it was a choice between Purple Rain or 1999.
i picked 1999 cos it had more songs on it.

my first prince album i got with my allowance money when i was 13 and it was the 3 cd emancipation album. i liked it a lot, especially sex in the summer.

1999 i was 9, delirious was the single playin on the radio and i liked that synthesizer. so a 20 yr old girl down the street gave me the album. i had heard the radio version of little red corvette and when i listened to the album boy was it a suprise for me. i think prince taught me more about sex on that album than i learned in sex ed the next year in school. of course after i got 1999 i was hooked. saw purple rain the next year and haven't looked back since.

The album that got me 2 become a fam was 'Dirty Mind"

The first album I heard was Purple Rain; just hated it! All my high school friend were very much into Prince's music, so I gave it a second chance and bought the Sign of the times album. Since then I was lost and bought all of his albums, singles, tapes and whatsoever....

I bought my first Prince record in 1984 , PR ofcourse. I bought it because the guy with his bike on the cover looked a bit like Jimi Hendrix.
I found it sensational.That was my first of a long collection up to now
