Batman. A bad point to enter. I'd worked my way through Dirty Mind - Lovesey in the previous few months though.

I knew nothing about him except he sang a song called 1999, I found "the very best of" for $17, I looked at my money then the album again, and I thought "alright I give Prince the go". Since that day I have been hooked.

My first Prince purchased Prince album was Around the World in a day.

The first album i actually owned was swiped from older brother. The album was Purple Rain and Ice Cream Castles by the Time. (Got my ass beat for it but I still have the Purple Rain LP.)

I've always loved Prince. I remember hearing a lot of his music when I was little...and I mean little. I was about 2 when "Raspberry Beret" was popular, and 3 when "Kiss" came out. My parents actually owned the "Around The World In A Day" cassette (because of "Raspberry Beret"), but apparently our downstairs neighbors played "1999" a lot when I was a baby. (I was born in 1983.) So, I think the Prince pride's just been in me forever. However, I stole the ATWIAD album from my parents and played it to death when I started junior high. That was after taking my parents' "Diamonds and Pearls" cassette in 1991 (I was 8). The first cassette I bought was "The Hits 1," and then I got "The Hits 2," "Purple Rain," "1999"...yada, yada, yada. The first CDs I bought were "Controversy" and "Parade" in 1997, and then I bought all the albums on CD.

I inherited my mom's cassettes of 1999 and Purple Rain in 1984. A friend gave me ATWIAD in 6th grade because he said he didn't like it. He gave me the cassette in class and had the cassette sleeve in the case backwards so the weird sky and trees were showing instead of the actual cover. The first album I bought was Parade on cassette the day it was released. My dad drove me 30 minutes (one way) to the nearest record store that had it.

I can remember being especially depressed in 1989 when I bought my first CD player and realized that I really needed to buy all the albums over again. Took me about a year to save up the money to get them all up to '89.

AROUND THE WORLD IN A DAY . the year was 1985 and i was 15 years old. i was already a big fan b/c 1999 and purple rain were all over the radio. WOW, those were the days for Prince. I didn't buy 1999 and purple rain until later on for two reasons A) at 11/12/13 years old , I didn't have the $$$ for albums yet and B) you could tape nearly all of his songs off the radio in those days. i mean, back then, P used to get play on straight up rock stations, top forty stations, dance stations, R&B stations , and college radio. he really brought people together and broke all musical barriers.

I was only about 7 or 8 when my Mum got me "Symbol" in late '92, thanx to killer singles "Sexy MF" and "My name is Prince", which had the video which had him wearing freaky clothes even by Prince standards! Damn that Prince is so different to the one now!

"Symbol" possibally has the best first 5 tracks ever in my opinion! "The max" ruled bigtime and "Morning papers" is a lovely song whilst "Love 2 the 9's" is an odd track with cool rap lyrics "Say how u gonna make that booty boom!" That line is still killer!
