Rave Un2..Rave In2...what's the story? Would someone mind filling me in? What went wrong with Clive and Arista? Did they bugger up promotion whilst Prince was doing CDUK and TOTP etc, hoping for a hit album and single?
Why did Prince release Rave IN2 thru the NPGMC in 2000? Why were the songs all reworked or remixed? Were the originals 'commercial' versions asked for by Arista or summat? Why did he take off the rubbish cover of the rubbish, irritating impossibly popular Seril Crox song and replace it with the cool Beautiful Strange? Why is Silly Game SO crap? What will happen if and when Prince's back catalogue is somehow eventually made available in record stores? Will two versions of Rave be sold? They are quite different listening hexperiences and contain some different tracks aswell. Prince's bac catalogue is a bit of a mess what with the Black Album, Gold Exp ltd releases, then all the obligation albums mostly full of filler....I feel bad for all the kids who will be getting into Prince this year. They'll have to make do with Purple Rain and a few other bits and bobs.

I think Rave In2 was just Prince's way of taking a failed, lackluster album and revamping it into something better. It would have been interesting to see how Rave In2 would have fared if it had been released instead of Rave Un2...it probably wouldn't have done much better, but I'm guessing at least the reviews might have been more positive...

So do you think IN2 will become the definitive version of this album? I don't own either but was thinking of adding IN2 to my collection. I love the track Beautiful Stange so maybe it's worth it just for that.

In2 is far better than Un2. The only problems with In2 is I think he should have kept Strange But True and got rid of Silly Game and I actually like the original version of Rave (the song) better than the remix. But those are just minor complaints.
I think I remember when Un2 was released Prince already had planned to release a remix version via the club. I think maybe along the way he decided to add some new trax and take off others to make it a stronger album after it bombed. Thank goodness he dumped that remake of Everyday is a Winding Road...the absence of that track alone made the whole thing stronger imo.

Yes. Get it. Don't think twice. It'll completely redefine how you think of that album. These days I'm all, "Rave Un2 Wha...?"
