Prince on Richard Pryor Show Today I watched "The Richard Pryor Show" on dvd. NBC aired four episodes of the show in 1997. What does this have to do with Prince? Well, the dvd set includes various special features including a Q & A with members of the audience. One member of the audience asked Mr. Pryor "[w]hen you die, where do you plan on going?" I wasn't paying particular attention during this part but I instantly recognized the voice. After pausing and rolling it back to see who asked the question, I can say that I am 90% sure that it was the not-famous-yet genius from Minnesota (remember, the show aired in 1977). In addition to the distinct voice. there are four reasons why it was probably him:
1. The question asked is one that might have been on Prince's mind at the time. Moreover, while all the other questions from the audience concerned mundane issues, someone would have had to have been as bold as Prince to ask that one. 2. He was the only person (atleast on camera) wearing shades in the audience (Mr. Pryor even said something about it). This doesn't say much but wearing shades indoors wouldn't be unusual for an emerging star (or atleast one who saw himself that way). 3. Notwithstanding the cover created by the large sunglasses, one clearly sees Prince's skin complexion and facial structure (i.e. lips, cheeks, and nose). 4. He also had Prince's well known afro from the period. Because it was a common style, this factor does not deserve as much weight. Hopefully, I'm not the only person with the dvd set. Someone should be able to confirm or refute this possible sighting for us soon. -Elvin P.S. By the way, Mr. Pryor's answer to the question was "I don't give a f***." Yeah, those sunglasses were kinda dapp. I wasn't there so I can't speak in absolutes, but you've only presented a conclusory statement ("that ain't Prince."). Did you only see a still image? Were you able to hear the voice? Did you notice the inflection? In considering physical features, did you account for the fact that he would have been about 18 or 19 yrs old at the time? An answer one way or another won't mean a cup of Starbucks java but let's support our assertions with reasons if we can. One more thing, I believe that Elvis wore Foster Grant sunglasses; Prince wouldn't wear those. | |

On one of his skits on that show, Rich played the lead singer in a heavy metal group! In between laughs at how silly the whole thing was, I could've sworn I saw Bobby Z. on the drums!!! His nose is larger (audience guy) and his cheeks seem more prominent. You know how many damn times Im hearing "I dont give a fuck" form havin went back n forth on this? lol. Got one problem doe:One thing that now rerunning it again 30 times is: it almost looks like Princes teeth structure ..that snaggle toothed look when he smiles and moves his head up/down angle. and it would make sense because wouldnt he be in L.A. able to attend taping since he would be making his debut album at that time in L.A.? now this is fuckin with me..the only thing that makes me really not think its him is that fucked up afro..princes wasnt discolored or that tight-packed..his was more loose but who da fuck can say fo sho? Something else too now. Pryor recorded for Warner Bros. Same label yes. Heres the dip though: Pryor seemed ready to reply "I dont give a fuck" as in it was written in as "an audience members qestion" with Pryor responding in rude manner as to create more Pryor dynamic. He was right on the money and out of character for that one answer form all the other questions. Seems like such a pre-planned set-up.
