Sheila E. plays on the Musicology album!!! Okay, she only plays a "shaker", whatever that is, but that's still cool to see. And it's on Dear Mr. Man, which may be my favorite track on the album.
Incidentally, Dear Mr. Man is also the only track to feature Renato Neto. Much more of the album was played by Prince solo than I would have thought by ear alone - I believe even John Blackwell is only on 4 tracks, and Musicology ain't one of them (I guess that really is Prince on drums for that track!). Rhonda's only on two tracks! And she's only playing bass on one of them! This is all taken from http://www.icemagazine.co...040329.asp, of course, but I'm sure all the people with the retail version can corroborate.

When I first reviewed the album I said it sounded like Prince working alone in the studio and that most of the drumming sounded programmed rather than Blackwell's jazzy live-sounding drums - and someone came back and said you could hear Blackwell all over this album! Guess I was right all along, so there!

It's not noted in Ice magazine but I'm pretty sure Maceo, Greg and Candy play on Dear Mr. Man

Dear Mr. Man was culled from the same period that NEWS was recorded - the band all jammed at the same time, and later on the song was built around that jam. (FYI - Sheila doesn't appear on NEWS as she was sick that day or two) As for the 'Musiclogy' drums, that is Blackwell. From the same period, except the drum track was recorded later into pro tools from analogue 24track, and then 'cut up' to form the present arrangement. Horns are indeed M,G, and Candy. I know, as I recorded this stuff, but I didn't get credit either.
