Where Would Prince B 2Day if He Had Conformed to the System?

Where do you think P would be today if he had not gone through all that mess with WB? Would he even need a "comeback" now? Would some of his 1994-2003 output have ended up being much bigger hits? How would it have colored or altered his pesonality, music and success? I for one believe if he had "played ball" albums like Gold Experience would have been among his more successful albums and that he could have stayed as much in the masses' consciousness as Madonna has.

Thoughts?

In his grave probably.

If he wudda put up with the warner bros. contract I reckon he would still be as pop 2day as he was in 1993.

Given he never changed his name of course.

If prince conformed to the system he would'nt be prince...
everything prince did that made him an outcast to the music world is what is going to get him major respect in the future...

sinatra, aerosmith and elvis all dissapeared for a few years and then returned as even bigger legends...

prince is the next in line...

Depends how you define success. In the eyes of his fans The Gold Experience was a success.

I could not have said it better. When has Prince ever conformed? When he was a punk kid with no contract, he insisted on producing himself to sign with WB. He didnt conform then and he still doesnt. This is why he is a hero to some of us.

As far as where he would be, I would say he would be the same genius musical force that he has always been. He would still be the baddest MF on the planet.

Prince would be up there with Madonna - Interesting and still cool but not too hyped up enough to be part of a backlash.

I dont think Prince would ever be where MJ is now because, and Prince would be the first to admit it, Purple Rain was years ago where as Jacko still thinks Thriller/Off The Wall is his golden ticket to fame still - he beleives he has the right to be a twat...whereas Prince knows you have to earn that right

Sometimes I wish P would just release his best stuff every 3 years so that every album would be completely slamming, but then he wouldn't be P would he?

if he hadn't started the feud with WB, we'd probably have gotten a lot better albums for the last 8 years. personally, i like the middleman. the middleman will tell you "sorry, this isn't good enough. i can't sell this to the public. you'll have to go back and come up with something better."

All that glitters aint gold!!! PRINCE IS WORTH MORE THAN 20-30M for 3 or 4 albums... HE SHOULD OWN HIS MASTERS. How much do you think "let it be is worth"...I don't believe you know jack about business...Elvis presley has been dead sincethe day i was born...and the media outlets still play his crappy houndog shitt that he ripped off from a Sister. Same with the beatles. Kiss etc...their inventories are worth in the hundreds of millions.
I don't think Lisa Marie Presley's kids will go hungry!

putting aside my suspicion that you're just a wee bit excitable...

that's because someone took ahold of the business side of Elvis' estate and made it into something. at the time of his death, he wasn't worth that much. but Priscilla stepped in and turned things around and turned it into a rock empire.

when Prince gets his business head out of his ass, then he won't have to rail against the industry anymore. he can buy his masters and that's that. and if he's #1 at the bank, what's stopping him?

if he cared all that much about it, he would have taken a lower paycheck for his last WB contract, in exchange for control/ownership of the masters, as U2, REM, and Metallica have done. but he didn't. the fact is, he only started whining and bitching about it after he'd spent the wad of cash they paid him on worthless side projects (Carmen Electra, Goldnigga) and videos that would never be released (hell, even videos for SONGS that would never be released).

he wants his cake, and to eat it too. and it just isn't possible. what's stopping him from ponying up the $$ to buy them back? does he really think WB is just going to hand them over to him out of the goodness of their own heart? of course not. they paid good money for that music, and there's no reason they should just give it back. if you go to an auction and buy a painting for $5000, take it home, and then the painter changes his mind about the sale and starts a picket line outside your house holding up signs that say "slave" and whatnot demanding you give it back to him, without compensation, what do you do? just hand it over out of interest for "artistic freedom" and "ownership" and all that jazz? probably not. what Prince did with WB is no different. hell, they even made his ass a VP of the company.
