"If I Was Your Girlfriend" is pure soul! This is probably nothing new to you, but I just wanna say that this SOTT classic track is one of his grooviest and most soulful ever! The funky beat, the bumpin' bass, the tweaked vocals! This is proof enough that Prince is the man! NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

One of the best songs ever by anyone! When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Has he ever performed IIWYG live? How does it sound?

Funny how it came from an engineering mistake, something to do with recording the sounds. The engineer did something wrong and it created one of Prince's greatest songs. http://www.myspace.com/savage1999uk

Yes, the vocals are distorted a bit. Susan Rogers thought Prince would kick her ass about it, but he liked the "mistake" and kept it.

I think he performed it on the release concert for Emancipation. Didn't enjoy it then, didn't do it any justice. In fact that whole performance was very lame compared to what he can do. Mind you, he did have alot on his plate at the time! http://www.myspace.com/savage1999uk

The best ever live performance of the song has to be the one from New Year's Eve 1987 at Paisley Park.
