Yeah that cover does suck. I think it would look much better though w/ just a white background. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 6, 6...

Hey, why don't one of you guys design one and post it? I'd like to see what you would do with it.

If that's the cover, I'll have to take it out and hide it.

Glad I'm getting mine at the theater on Monday, especially now that I know it will not have these horrible graphics...
It will be like getting "something naughty" in a brown paper wrapper to avoid the embarassment.

I think Prince is thinking about picking his weeds around the rose bushes. Drab, ugly cover. All you others say Hell Yea!!

I'm a little surprised by the bashing on the cover (only a little) and no one seems to be thinking outside the box to find a message here. So in my own warped little mind here is my thougts on this...
1. No name on the cover is a move that shows confidence in his face being recognizable around the world. Very few Artist can get away with this and he is still relevant enough to do so. 2. The picture is same as that used to promote his tour which from a marketing standpoint makes sense to be consistent and recognizable to the "general" public. 3. It's very similar to the cover for The Hits package which is the last album he's had that created a stir amongst "new" fans. It's a look and feel that the public is familiar with and stands out to the average buyer in a wrecka stow. Those same buyers had no clue what Emancipation was about and probably wouldn't even get a concept cover like SOTT or ATWIAD. Those covers worked in the peak of his popularity because it was an album people came in and looked or asked for. As much as he is back in the public eye right now a cover that didn't immediately tell you it was Prince's new work just wouldn't make sense yet. 4. Lastly, about the branches. This is where i work outside the box a little but my very first reaction to it was this...the branches represent the History or "Family Tree" of music that he's trying to represent with this album. It was my first impression and since no one has come up with anything other than ITS GARBAGE, i'm going to stick with my opinion until someone brings something better (positive) to the table. That all said i can care less come tomorrow night because i'm going to the Reno show and will be jammin to the new music right after...cover or not.

Beautifully said. I'd like to add one thing. Few artist today are taking the marketing approach Prince has taken in the past few years. Album covers and live shows have become nothing than a marketing circus. Rather than fancy album covers and extravegent live show theatrics, Prince is stripping away all marketing gimmics and letting the music and his live shows speak for themselves. Over marketing detracts from the music. Real musicianship speaks for itself.

These so called "branches" remind me more of an organism you would see under a microscope...hence Musicology.

Oh my gosh...
That really is the cover!!!????? Oh boy...I see where this is go... He did this whole project by himself. The man is getting ready to rake in so much playdoh... The badstard, the sneaky badstard. Pretty much, Prince is about to hit the jackpot of investments. He does the whole production cost, manufacturing, art work...everything. Sony/Columbia charges an arma and leg to the public and he makes - what? - 80%. Then you slap the profit from the tour. Man oh, man. Alot of artists are going to be enviest. He still gets to say screw the industry. _________________________________________
