It seems, however, that the radio play dictates the chart success. Hopefully with more airplay, then greater charting success. Who knows...perhaps it's wishful thinking. I think P made a BIG mistake releasing "Musicology." There are better chart-worthly tracks on this album. At least he's doing the right thing by releasing "Call My Name." He needs to regain some legitimacy with his urban/black audience.

So, even with heavy rotation on MTV etc the radio stations are still not playing this much?
I would have expected top 20 R&B at least. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

i think musicology is cool enough track to get things started. i think releasing another r&b/soul style song as the 2nd single would be a mistake though, especially with everyone talking about the diversity of the record. prince and his pr people need to showcase the eclectic styles on the record. on the couch would be a better choice than call my name. cinnamon girl or dear mr. man would be cool choices also. since p has given away the cd to so many people, it wouldn't be a bad idea to release what do u want me 2 do or reflection to adult contemporary. at the same time, he should release something to top 40. let musicology sit on the r&b stations for a while longer. the he'll have 3 different styles at the same time. if sony gets them played, when people switch stations they will hear several different sounds. with so many people already having the disc just from attending the concerts, this is one case where saturation would not hurt him.
with radio being as bland and categorized as it is today, maybe we just need prince to come back around and give us all a case of de ja vu. remember, he was the one mixing genres in the early 80's and he broke the mold then. he can do it this time, too. There's resistance from radio and not from video stations. It's not surprising, as Musicology challenges radio. Compared to most radio stations, even MTV has a diverse and eclectic playlist.
Maybe it will be a case of Video made the radio star.
