#1 Debut for "Musicology" on Billboard Top 200?

Cover of Entertainment Weekly, sold-out tour, great reviews for new CD, heavy MTV video rotation, good price at Best Buy leads me to think a Number 1 debut certainly wouldn't be out of the question.

Hm, you never know. I for one am looking forward to Musicology's first week on the charts.

Anyone know when Billboard releases their weekly Top 200?

I'm optimistic about a top 10 debut, but I don't think no.1 is possible. Usher's new album fell only 4% in sales this week to over 460,000 copies. And that's in it's third week at number one! When 'Musicology' debuts week after next, Usher will still likely be selling well in excess of 200,000, something I don't think Prince can pull off. Especially since the sold-out tour will likely hurt 'Musicology's sales, since casual fans will receive a free copy there and not feel the need to buy it in stores. But maybe over 100,000 is possible, pushing him into the top ten for the first time since The Gold Experience waaay back in '95.

Good reviews? Maybe in Rollingstone but most UK press has pretty much hated it.

Check http://billboard.com Wednesday, April 28th. A week and a day after the album is released. Billboard will post a story about the Album charts that day, then you can see the entire chart the next afternoon by clicking on the "ALBUMS" link in the navigation bar on the left-hand side of the screen.

Thanks! I'll be watching that.

It's not impossible for that to happen, but I'd be just as ecstatic to see it go top 10 as well.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Riiiiight. And yet they're raving about Sugababes. Don't get me started on the British music press...

Go to

www.hitsdailydouble.com

on Wednesday the 21st and you'll see first day numbers and a ball park prediction on how it will do compared to other releases. I'm sure they will be posting about 'Musicology' throughout the week.

I wish 'Musicology' would debut at #1 and then asked why he thinks he did so well he could answer "I guess people were just waiting for REAL MUSIC". (This is what Usher said about why his album did so well the first couple weeks)

I predict it will be a Top 10 debut. There is so much media hype around Prince, the tour and the record. I'm sure it will do more than 80,000. Which is what this weeks #10 album sold (J-Kwon).

I'll do my part and buy a couple of copies of 'Musicology' for my friendz

Didn't I read that Prince is counting the CDs given away at the shows as sold units (actually not "given" away as the price is factored into the ticket)? Will this count for chart position?

I don't think so. It they did..those 'sales' should have been reporting to Soundscan since the tour began. I have yet to see it in my weekly reports which include 'leaks' meaning sales before retail street date. If it had...'Musicology' would have been averaging about 50,000-80,000 a week depending on how many shows he did per week.

Make sense..I think I rambled more than I should have... biggrin

I have to say I haven't heard a Sugababes song that i haven't liked. They're a good girl group and they choose some very catchy songs. Plus the blonde one is fit.

i think #1 is unlikely, but Top 5 certainly seems possible.

They are the most overhyped kiddie band since Hanson. All I can base it on is the CD that came in the mail to work, but lordy, if this is the cream of English pop...That cover of Adina Howard...yuck.
