Autograph Rejection Story

Prince goes door to door

Prince no longer reigns with one young ex-fan.

The paisleyed rocker gave a concert in Cincinnati on Tuesday, and according to a source, a little girl with cerebral palsy was hoping to get Prince’s autograph, but was abruptly and curtly turned away. “She was really disappointed,” says the source. “It was awfully sad.”

“He doesn’t give autographs to anyone,” explains a Prince defender. “If he starts making exceptions, it’s not fair to anyone.”

Meanwhile, Prince — a devout Jehovah’s Witness — has been knocking door-to-door in Minneapolis, proselytizing on behalf of the church, according to the London Daily Mirror. The singer reportedly has his bodyguards in tow.

“Dressed in a tailor-made suit and trademark stack heels, he steps lightly out of his purring limo and, surrounded by four bodyguards, approaches the modest picket-fenced homes,” reports the Mirror. “And to each astonished resident opening their doors to the peculiar group, multi-millionaire superstar Prince quietly asks: ‘Would you like to talk about Jesus?’”

Prince’s rep didn’t return The Scoop’s calls for comment.

See, this is bad publicity and bad public relations. All Prince has to do is get some little cards made up with a poem or lyric on them. His bodyguard can carry the cards. Whenever someone asks for an autograph, the person can be handed one of the cards. This is simple. And it generates good will and doesn't send people away disappointed.

I've read that Steve Martin does that.

edit: Okay I checked and here's what it says about it on a celebrity news site:

"Fans of funnyman Steve Martin don't just get an autograph when they meet him - they get a "personal encounter". Steve says he often doesn't have much time with fans when he's signing autographs, so he used to design business cards which he hands out to them instead. Martin says, "I sign autographs, but when you're rushing somewhere, like you're going to catch a plane, you don't really have time. So I made these little cards that said 'This certifies that you've had a personal encounter with me and that you found me warm, polite and
colorful.' The reason I did that was because people come up to you for one second, and people are like, what was he like? You just never know so you can produce your card, then you'll know!"

lol

I love Steve Martin. He's a cool guy. biggrin

ok, so i've heard this new 'limo version' of the knocking door to door story but, correct me if i'm wrong, didn't the initial report of the incident (was it during rosh hoshannah?) involve a van waiting outside with a woman driver? is the limo story a more recent happening or is it just slowly getting twisted?

and by the way, it would not have killed him to hook the kid up. with an already tough life, it could have made her a little happier. shit, he still could have slipped her an issue of awake or watchtower along with the autograph. maybe he should have put it ON one of those magazines...then she'd be sure to keep it unlike the rest of the world who just chucks them in the garbage.
