As a writer, the thing about Prince's music that's always touched me the most has always been his lyrics and his ability to completely illustrate his thoughts and draw pictures with his words. For me, if he don't say it right, I ain't feelin' it, especially if the first few words don't grab me and make me think. So, I wanted to know what you all thought are his best opening lines from a song.

My favorite opening lines/verses are:

1. Little Red Corvette:
I guess I shoulda known
By the way u parked your car sideways
That it wouldn't last

See you're the kinda person
That believes in makin' out once
Love 'em and leave 'em fast

You know from these lines that some shit is 'bout to jump off and your eager for it and he doesn't disappoint in the rest of song. Plus, his lyrics are so visual. You can totally see him telling some girl all this stuff. Maybe his voice cracking a little because he's hurt or can't believe she used him for sex. Oh, NO!!! I was 9 years old when I first heard this song and it started me on the road to appreciating Prince. Some would say I ain't been right since, but that's another story.

2. Raspberry Beret:
I was working part time in a five-and-dime
My boss was Mr. McGee
He told me several times that he didn't like my kind
'Cause I was a bit 2 leisurely

Seems that I was busy doing something close 2 nothing
But different than the day before
That's when I saw her, Ooh, I saw her
She walked in through the out door, out door

Again, extremely visual especially in the verses that follow. You could shoot a cool video whose storyline followed the verses and it would be like a mini-movie. Climaxing of course in the barn with horses. The lyrics are just perfect in this song, like he's hanging out with friends and telling them how he lost his virginity. Very cool, indeed.
