Prince Claims His Kingdom

NEW YORK, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Flush from the glowing accolades from the 2004 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony, Prince is embracing the love of his admirers. The Purple One is opening his current Musicology tour with video from Alicia Keyes' love fest speech when she and Outkast inducted him into the Hall of Fame back in March when the ceremony aired on VH1.
Alicia Keyes' Speech

There are many kings, King Henry the 8th, King Solomon, King Tut, King
James, King Kong, the Three Kings, but there is only one Prince. Only
one man, who has defied restriction, whose defied the obvious and all the
rules to the game. The mysterious figure who in a river of words will
not suffice can be identified as a symbol. There is only one man who is
so loud he can make you soft, who is so strong he makes you weak, so
honest you feel kind of bashful, so bold he defies you to be subtle, and
so superbad he makes you feel so supergood. He's the only man that I've
ever seen that lights the stage on fire, leaving you to burn within it in
a frenzy of movement, lights, electric guitars, slides, pianos, dances,
voices, splits, and songs. Oh my God songs so powerful, that you are
forever changed songs that make you laugh and cry, think and dance, songs
that made me look at song writing as stories that are untold passions
dying to be heard. He is the inspiration that generations will return to

When Prince started his career, he wanted to be called "Prince Roger", but I think it was his first manager, not Chris Moon, other whose name I don't remember, who said "hey, no Prince Roger, because gthen there can be a lot of princes, only Prince and then he will be the only one".

I didn't hear the speech the way Alicia said it, so could someone please add whatever pregnant pauses Alicia said it with like "mm" "uhh" "ahh-heh"? Writer's license given if it helps convey your perspective.

i think miss keys words were simply beautiful. i can't think of a finer tribute. i'm confident in saying that prince was probably moved backstage. it's well known that he has respect for her as an artist, and the poetic nature of her tribute was the capstone of a great night in the career of a true living legend in music...

All I can say about it is that I was watching it on VH1 the night they aired it and even though Alicia Keys was reading it and she seemed quite nervous I sat there stunned and thought "I couldn't have said it better myself". No matter what you think about her music, she's an obvious fam....She done me proud!

I wish people would leave Alicia Keys' speech the hell alone. The girl was emotional when she gave the speech because she was overjoyed and over proud to induct P in the HOF. She was probably also pleased that he asked her. Plus why he gotta write the speech he wrote. Didn't nobody old or young artist have to induct Prince. The HOF could have passed him up. They could've made him wait until he was 100 like they did Little Richard. I liked the speech. She did an excellent job and the chuckles was probably because she was trying to keep from crying. Enough with the sex stuff and all this orgasm and creamin in her pantie shit. All women are not like that with men just because we praise them.
