The Black Album - remixes or outtakes? Anyone know if there were any official mixes or would be 'b' sides? What were they called?

considering that there were remixes of at least "Eye Know" from Lovesexy, I bet there were remixes or extended versions of BLack album tracks, he did release that intrumental of Superfunky.
Of course there must have been some outtakes or alternate mixes... My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

they were playing a remix of Superfunky at the 2002 celebration, outside during the daytime.
it actually made me like the song. "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later, every asshole gets one."

I wouldn't surprise me if there were unreleased remixes of Black Album tracks. There's
certainly a longer version of Superfunkycalifragisexy that clocks in around 7:17. If I remember correctly, there was talk of Cindy C being a possible single when the album was first due for release in 1987. As for Lovesexy, there was talk of releasing 6 or 7 singles from that album at one point. The title track was being lined up for a single release, and edits, extended versions and remixes were made of it. Eye No was also being considered for a single release and remixes were made for it as well.

The remixes Boris describes are not circulating, but the extended version of Superfunki.. is.
As for out-takes (re: the original message) - I've never heard of any out-takes from the album - considering it was a compilation of left-overs and odd'n'sods I presume not hearing about any = there weren't any. Boris, do you know if there were any other configurations/tracklists of the Funk Bible? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

...Femi Jiya and Rick Neigher can be seen working on one of the Lovesexy remixes 4 Prince in the 1988 Def II 'Behind The Beat' BBC TV special.
The camera also gets a close-up of Prince's hand-written instructions 4 the remix, which (seen as I was so bored this evening!!!) I've hunted down my dusty old tape, and transcribed 4 u 2 read here: 'LoVESEXY. After intro, one chorus then dig me now. No horns in perc. break After guitar solo, add tabla. Could be stronger turnaround after...' (Possibly says 'horns' here) (the rest is indecipherable im afraid). [This message was edited Wed Apr 14 15:24:19 2004 by bananacologne]

There were no outtakes or alternate configurations for the Black Album. It was put together
quite quickly between October and November 1987 with a scheduled release date of December 8th 1987. It was assembled out of existing tracks (apart from When 2 R In Love, which was new). Prince had actually started recording tracks for what was then going to be his next album: Graffiti Bridge, when he assembled the Black Album (or Funk Bible, as it was originally called). Here's when each track was recorded. (as you can see, most of it was recorded before Sign O' The Times had been released) Le Grind - December 1986 Cindy C. - March 1987 Dead On It - March 1987 When 2 R In Love - October 1987 Bob George - December 1986 Superfunkycalifragisexy - September 1986 2 Nigs United 4 West Compton - December 1986 Rockhard In A Funky Place - October 1986 Le Grind, Bob George & 2 Nigs United 4 West Compton had originally been recorded especially to play as party music for Sheila E's birthday party on December 11th 1986, and at the time Prince had no intention of releasing them on any album. No, it was part of one of the NPG Ahdio shows if I remember correctly (a approx. 60 min long 'radio' show of music, given to members in year one of the NPGMC as one long mp3). [This message was edited Thu Apr 15 0:44:59 2004 by NouveauDance]
