I have a bunch of both. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

I have all the UPTOWNs and all the CONTROVERSY mags as well as the NPG mags, PUPRLE UNDERGROUND, CRYSTAL BALL, 7, and a few others as well. Overall, UPTOWN was the best and lasted the longest. In a close second was The Prince Family Newsletter. I miss having the magazine show up every two weeks with all the current info. The internet is great, but having a tangible thing in my hands was the best.
Any other magazines I've forgotten?

I have a bunch of Controversy mags, all of the NPG mags, a couple of the Truth mags, and every Uptown magazine starting with No. 1 in 1991 up to No. 57 in April 2003. If I backorder the last 3 Uptowns, I'll have a complete set.
The end of Uptown was kind of sad. Of all the Prince fanzines, that was the last one still publishing. Now, there's no Prince fanzine at all.

I have loads of Controversy mags - Now THAT was a fan club - priority tickets that guaranteed a good view (except Wembley Stadiun) at a reasonable price, something solid every month(?) in thE form of a magazine, new Pictures and features every issue, something to look forward to on a regular basis - only problem was that merchandise was so damn hard to order from MPLS.

I only have a few copies of Uptown and 7.

Oh, I remember 7 - the Australian mag, that was a nice looking mag, and they had a cool website too.
I have a few Controversy's, mainly later ones, and I have all the Uptowns from 1-60, and all the bits and bobs inbetween - NPG Mag, loads of other fanzines and newsletters from around the globe stored somewhere Oh, and the 'Truth' Angel - those fraudsters who stole their readers money when they closed the mag and joined (spooky intro music) the... collective

I had all the Controversy mags...but...I went 'off' Prince big time in the late 90's. I gave the whole stack to my friend who ripped them up for Cat litter.

quite agree...controversy may not have been as analytical as Uptown (which, overall, as a mag, I think is over-rated...books are excellent, mind), but as a club it was the best thing ever to happen to Prince....shame he buggered it up!

I got nearly all Uptown except the first 15 issues and the most recent ones.
And I got all the Controversy mags between 1989 - 1993 (when it finished). My fav Uptown edition was the Poster Specials, all dem pics!!!! My fav Controversy edition was probably the one where they printed the results to the huge poll they did for "Whats Prince best/worst single" and "What song would U most want 2 hear live" etc. Ahh the memories. I do. I kept all the issues of "Controversy" I got. Not many though cause I didn't know about the fanzine until about a year before it folded. I'm firmly planted in denial

I have many of the issues of Prince Family Newsletter but there are several that I am missing. I have all the UPTOWNs, all the Controversies, the NPGs, and I remember the Purple Underground, but that one was such a huge rip off. A guy named Nathan who printed 1 or 2 issues and then kept eveyone's money.
For my money, Controversy was too much of an asskiss magazine. Prince could do no wrong and that was a problem. There was also a French magazine called Camille, or something like that. There was another magazine called New Power Soul (at least I think that was the title). Don't forget about Dream Factory magazine as well. I think there were more, but I can't remember them. It is unfortunate that UPTOWN isn't going to publish any more issues, but THE VAULT is going to be amazing. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. Several of both, all of and a couple of 7. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I have the Lovesexy era Controversy magazines... I believe issues 11-15, and then the very last one published, #43.
I have one Uptown, the one that came out around the first celebration that covered the Lovesexy tour. I also have the Crystal Ball magazine. Lovesexy Funkateer

I have the last few years of Controversy before it folded. I also have a few years worth of Uptown. I haven't bought Uptown since maybe 2002. Sorry to hear it folded.
One day I'll put all those mags up for sale on ebay.

That's right, we didn't get priority seating at Wembley Stadium but instead we got tickets for the Forum aftershow which more than made up for it! My first aftershow and a great night as well ( he landed on top of me when he dived into the audience, a thrill at the time! )
