my wife and i saw Bruce a few years back at the fleet center here in Boston, and in the middle of the show she turned to me and said ....."boy, i guess we are spoiled".....i said from what, what are you talking about?'.she said "from seeing Prince !!.".....and you know she had a point..Springsteen's band is at THIS POINT in time an overrtaed bar band.
His drummer is waaaay overrated, bombastic...which is cool for the arenas I guess.....but not much in the way of chops. also Clemons the sax player is just a King Curtis clone and not a very good one.....it's the same uninspired histrionic solo after solo...
Also Bruce plays his guitar like it's a Hand grenade ready to blow up in his hands...serious ,he looks afraid of it.....I mean for guys who have played for so long ,do they have to bend over their guitars and look at it like they never seen it before?

And don't get me started with Little Steven .....very overrated , in fact thats a polite critique of his playing.
the bass player is ok...but he might be better than i think, it's just that he plays with a god aweful drummer. roy Bittan's cool.....but basiclaly noodles at the piano when playing with Bruce.....Let's face it Springsteen does not write many complex arrangements ..in fact it's basic watered down STAX !!

actually i don't think it's whether Prince is better because he can play Bruces type of music, or vice versa. i think prince has progressed over the years into what he is today, and the fact that he constantly plays ...aftershows ,rehearhsals and has honed his talent . unlike a majority of musicians who are out there today.
Let's face it people like Janet ,Justin ...don't have to tour like back in the day. they rely on video and limited touring.
what makes Prince a monster showman and musician is the fact he is constantly evolving , not afraid to change his band members, relentless jamming, i mean his solo at the HOF awards.....who could play that beside santana and a few others..... not anyone in Springsteens camp thats for sure.

Prince is the best live performer because he understands IT, he has studied from sly and James Brown and taken it to another level. it's that deep respect for the past , BUt with his mind on the present and future that keeps Prince fresh. Being influenced , but also influencing and setting new standards.

the sad part is , when Prince is done who picks up the Baton?

this guy and his band absolutely electrified the celebration at the park. i think they could give prince a run for his money AND they allow taping

also, david bowie is pretty spellbinding. jeans, t-shirt, just himself all natural and unaffected.
