This is really difficult as there are loads of tunes I like that Ive had to leave off. In terms of making an album to show off the best of prince over the past decade, it would have to be a 2 CD set. tracks like The Rainbow Children, A Case Of U, Underneath The Cream, When I Lay My Hands On U, Call My Name, Tangerine, Last December, The Work....all these deserve to be heard. However a one CD set would be as above, but perhaps not in that order.

It's funny, I was just thinking the other day about Alan Leeds' liner notes in the 'Hits/B-Sides' set. He wondered what a collection of the next 15 years would sound like. Going purely by greatest hits (what little there've been) and famous album cuts, I'd imagine something like this (in chronological order):

1.The Most Beautiful Girl In The World (Original Single Mix) - Prince's only top 10 hit in the last decade, a no-brainer
2.Lovesign - The follow-up to TMBGITW until WB called for a promotional cease and desist. Plus it's fairly rare, having only been released on the 1-800-NEW-FUNK album
3.Letitgo - A top 40 hit in the fall of '94
4.Space (Universal Love remix) - Not a big hit, but the remix is another fairly rare song and would attract die-hards who missed it
5.Purple Medley (single edit) - A minor hit after the '95 AMAs and a reminder of the previous 15 year's worth of hits
6.Pussy Control - Never a single, but I can't remember the last time I was at a club and they DIDN'T play this. A true underground classic; everyone knows this song
7.Eye Hate U (single edit) - Prince's last official Billboard top 40 hit (not counting "1999" in 1999).
8.Gold (single edit) - A pretty big hit in Europe, and got some VH-1 play in America
9.Dolphin - Got some video play on the Box, and was performed on Letterman
10.Dinner With Delores - The only single from Chaos & Disorder
11.Betcha By Golly Wow! - Made the top 40 of Billboard's airplay chart
12.Somebody's Somebody - An R&B radio hit
13.The Holy River - Had minor radio success
14.Face Down - The final single from Emancipation
15.The One (single edit)- The first single from New Power Soul, with minor R&B radio play
16.Come On - Video was played on BET, performed on the Tonight Show
17.1999 {The New Master} - Not the hit he was hoping for, but it was a fairly high-profile release at the time and adds the lure of his past hits to this set
18.The Greatest Romance Ever Sold (single edit) - The only Prince track to receive any real exposure in the last 5+ years, and his final appearance on the Billboard Hot 100
19.So Far, So Pleased - Prince wanted this to be a single, and it has Gwen Stefani
20.U Make My Sun Shine - Sold decently as a single and may draw fans of Angie Stone
21.The Work, pt. I - Ok, I know this was supposed to be only 20 tracks, but...this got some attention in the media as a dowloadable single on Napster, and he performed it on the Tonight Show. Plus it's reminiscent of "Musicology," if the aim of a hits album would be to capitalize on his current success

And honorable mention to "She Loves Me 4 Me," which got minor Urban AC airplay. Before anyone starts griping how there were better songs on other albums, remember this is supposed to be a greatest hits type album, and for good or bad, the above is what we have for the last decade. Now on to 2004-2014!

That would make a pretty decent "Best of". He still made a lot of good tracks during these 10 years, but making a "best of the 80's" compilation would take me much more time, LOL!
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

hrmph It wasn't specified that it was intended for resale. It's just people providing their opinions and expressing their musical likes. Perceive the lists as you like but don't attempt to insult others for expressing their views.
