IMHO, P's got issues like everybody else, whatever they may be, and I love him despite what I think those issues are. If for some reason he became some sort of saint of great inhuman depth I think I'd love him just the same, perhaps more.

personally i'd have trouble hooking up with a really fat guy, because of the total lifestyle differences. just wouldn't work. i once hung out with someone who was quite overweight. he was fun, witty, intelligent and i did like his company and conversation. but we were completely different when it came to activities. he got tired easily, didn't like sports, didn't want to go for walks or dancing, just liked watching tv and going to restaurants. the health issues were there too, he had high blood pressure and (probably) borderline diabetes, but wouldn't lose weight to take care of himself. i didn't want to watch while he ate himself into worse health so it didn't last.

i think that might apply to someone like prince too.

and for me, i don't want a guy who was born when i was going off to college. there's no way i could explain to him the things i learned in that 18-20 years before he was born, and i know i'd tire of trying to reconcile the different stages of our lives. i want to be with someone who has learned life's lessons so i don't have to watch him go through it all, and hang back myself while he does it. i like men who are around my age, or older so i can actually discuss things with them without explaining

i don't think this applies to prince. i don't think he'd go for an older woman

so the likelihood of prince dating an older fat woman is pretty slim, imo. but if he did, i'd likely feel i had more in common with him

I'm joking, kinda, but there are a couple of issues here, which may or may not have anything to do with Prince and the original thread.

Firstly, it's understandable that many men may not be attracted to a larger girl. Personality, once u know someone, is of course a huge part of the reason why someone wants to be with another soul, along with the physical attraction.

However, the physical attraction is often the first thing that lures u in and gives u the reason to want to find out more and ultimately find out about the person's character and therefore their compatibility with u. Many guys will never get to find out about some girls they could love because of this fact. It's unfortunate but just the way it is.

Being mean to larger women, or men while we're at it, and making them feel inferior is ridiculous and potentially can have terrible consequences.

BUT, there is a reason why we inherently have this notion of what is beautiful, even if we may seem quite divided on what 'beautiful' means in a woman or man physically. It's good to be politically correct, open-minded, compassionate to others and unsuperficial but let's not forget...

BEING FAT IS UNHEALTHY. IT'S NOT GOOD FOR U!!!

If there is a stigma attached to being fat it is as a result of the fact that naturally it should not be considered attractive for someone to be fat. It shouldn't really be acceptable. It should be undesirable to be fat, as is really the case. Nobody chooses to be 'thick'. Nobody grows up hoping to be 'thick'. It's trying to make sense of it and find a way for your self-esteem to deal with not be able to look the way u want.

We want everybody to be healthy in order to live the most fulfilling lives they can. It's not easy of course, but it seems that the acceptance fat parents in the US have that it's ok for their little Billy, Mikey, Jon or James to be fat as well is potentially disastrous. It's not just the US to blame here, but the synonymity of the USA with junk food and excessive TV viewing in particular renders the country the most obvious culprit.

Let's try to be healthy shall we, and help others too. Let's not encourage being overweight or in any way endorse it, but not discriminate while we're highlighting it.


p.s. I don't think Prince will ever be with an 'older, fat girl', no. I imagine he'll be with Mani.

I think I may have made u misunderstand me on the last point u raise there. We shouldn't render overweight people an underclass, ridicule or discriminate against them, or even simply tease them mercilessly as some of us probably do. I am not talking about the individual in the wau u crudely alluded to. The idea that being overweight is ok should not be accepted. I'm not saying we should have a fat police going around and checking everyone. In general our lifestyles are less healthy than before. I'm thinking particularly about kids who grow up with overweight parents who see nothing wrong with feeding their children with junk food and not really educating them about healthy lifestyles. Cigarettes and alcohol are another two problems.

Is there more of an obesity problem in the US than 20 years ago? When there are more obese people, how do people tend to feel when they see them, as opposed to seeing an obese person among a greater number of people who are not obese? When it becomes a regular site people becomes apathetic and accept it. We shouldn't accept it, surely. Is that what u are saying, that it's ok for kids to be fat and eat too much? Are u saying there is not at least a tiny problem with this in the US?

U can tell them all to be overweight and proud of themselves because they are beautiful and mommy loves them, but while ur doing that I'll be trying to find a sport they love and encouraging them to play it, while spending more time cooking good meals for them instead of lazily giving them junk food.

Being fat is not good for u. I'm not saying fat people are an abomination am I? All I'm saying is let's not get it twisted. It's there with smoking, alcohol, drugs and whatnot and we should strive to avoid it and be healthy. It should not be an acceptable lifestyle choice if we can help it, which we can. Nobody's perfect, but u have to try right?

Define "fat".

I know women who are a size 12 and consider themselves to be morbidly obese because they aren't a size 2 or a size 0. And I know men who downplay them and hold them to ridicule because they are not rail thin like a supermodel or Hollywood star.

Body image and sexualy attraction are extremely complicated topics.

It is entirely possible to weigh more than average and be in good health -- low cholesterol, cardio-vascullar fitness level, etc.

It is also entirely possible to be thin and in terrible health -- clogged arteries, no stamina, etc.

If your argument is against unhealthy lifestyle choices and physical fitness, then weight is truly not a reliable indicator. You would need to hold ALL people, regardless of size and shape, to the same standard and reject unhealthy skinny people in equal measure to unhealthy big people.

But, most folks look at the book's cover first and make assumptions about what's going on inside.
